Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Grooming query

Just been grooming the little angora x. He seems to be getting a new shorter coat on the top of his body, acrross his back and still the longer below and underneath him. He was living out until 6 weeks ago. Anyway the question is, is it normal to start seeing larger patches of skin through as you part the hair when they are shedding to a lighter coat?

Its all healthy pink skin by the way.

Do you mean he has bald patches?? One of mine did have that once when i groomed them loads during a moult.. i think their old fur came out before the new fur had properly grown through so they had very short areas in places. As long as there is no signs of mites im sure he is ok.. just watch that his fur is growing back ok.
Any pics of the little fella????

That is Scruffy on with my name, I will try to load a picture. I think its because I over groomed the back of him. No mites etc, and they are only two areas on his back where when you part the hair you can see lots of skin. Its not coming out in handfuls or anything.

Only had him 6/7 weeks and you do tend to worry. Just thought others would have had it with their long haired ones.
