Some of you will remember me starting this last year and the most popular names, also me threatening to do the same again this year. As there are many more members I'm really hopeful we can beat last year's 1118 names ! Can I clarify because it wasn't that clear last year, your current rabbits are welcome as are bridge bunnies (recently departed or ones you may have had as a child). And to all you rescues, if you have a list of rehomed rabbits, their names will also be extremely welcome (thanks Jill for the 100 plus last time). You don't have to put why your rabbit is called what it's called but feel free to if you have the time :D.

To get the ball rolling...

Current
Nellie...after me
Poppet...because Maria thought she looked like one
Elvis...after THE singer. by law everybody should own a rabbit called Elvis!
Florence...my mother and grandmother's middle name
Kitty...Maria's grandmother and name for a baby rabbit (kit)
Rita...Maria's mother
Colleen...Maria's father (!)
BooBoo...after my sister (she hates me now)
Dylan...after Bob and Thomas rather than the Magic Roundabout
Jaynie...family name (also Jane Dexter and Jack's Jane)
Adam...another family name

Bridge
Stanley...lovely little Stanley, named after my uncle
Betty
Bella
Bobtail
Marigold
Flossie
Bimbo
Bertha
Baby
Bertie
Thumper
(all the above except Stanley were rabbits kept in my twenties, only two of which I named being Marigold and Flossie because it suited them. The rest were named by my ex-wife).

Please take a few minutes to add yours to the list :D.

are we allowed to add ones from last year too? I'll presume so.

BTW love "Elvis...after THE singer. by law everybody should own a rabbit called Elvis!" maybe this would be a good method of getting a fourth "but Neil said we have too!"

Barney- because this was the name we had always planned to use for a springer spaniel that we had talked about having but when we got Cadiz (as he was) I just knew I had found my Barney!

Roxy-After the van we had our New Zealand adventures in! and her names had previousely been Roger and Rachel so we had to keep the R theme going.

Mo- Because Barney and Barnaby were getting confusing  and Donkey boy just wasn't going to happen! (The real reason is a secret though ;))

Rabbit1986

Only got 2:
Scruff - because he is, in looks and keeping his cage tidy, he is just like a teenage lad, food hidden all over his bedroom.
Sooty - because he's black and i was feeling really unorigional. It is subject to change as we have only had him a week, but i doubt it will.

Chocolate (choci) - named because of his colour (although he looks more white and gray:roll:)
Lily-Lovely (Lily) named because it poped into my head when I first heard about her:D
Holly - Already named, but strangly I picked out the same name:shock:
Brownie - Because hes brown
Luna - was orginally going to be called Chip (so I would have a chocolate chip cookie ) but Luna popped into my head and it suited her:D
Cookie - because I love cookies and it suits him:D

Bridge buns

Mickey - can't remember why we named him that:(
Lucy - Popped into my head on the way home from the petshop:)
Bunnykins - Was orignally going to be called Carrot, but it didn;t suit her, so I called her bunny, and added the kins because of my last name, to make bunnykins:D
Binky-Baby - was orignally called Baby, but he responded to binky better, so we renamed him binky-baby:D
Stormie - named because of her colour, with me for such a short time:cry:

And finally Theodore (theo) who now lives with Wiggle:D

Only have 3:

Ron - because we had to carry on the Harry Potter theme - Have/had 2 budgies called Harry and Hermione, but over time it has changed to Ronald MacDonald.

Ginny - as above, but name has evolved to Ginny Monster after having to sing to the neighbour's little girl the teletubbies theme.

Red - her full names is Kindred Spirit (DH picked her name and he wanted something with the word "red" as she is an orange mini rex). Her nickname is Ready Brek.

Millie ('cos it suited her)

Bridge Bunnys

Holmes (I got him from a place called Holmes and Gardens ***shame:oops:*)
Rosie (cos her ears had a pink glow with the sun through them)
Smokey (named by my cousins kids, who sent him to me when they got fed up)
Robert (as smokey renamed Peter as at 19 i didn't fancy shouting Robert up the garden as it was the boy next doors name:lol:)
Scamper (my 1st bun i was 10)

applebed
04-03-2008, 05:21 PM
He's called Thor because he just looks very "necro". Bunny of doom!

I used to have a bun called Treacle who was rehomed. :( She was gorgeous, I miss her kisses. She was so named for being a mismarked harlequin, and looked as though she was the victim of a treacle spill!

babybunnies3
04-03-2008, 05:22 PM
I've got

Dumpling/Dumpy because it suits her
Treacle because my sis named her
Dusty was named Bluie, I didn't like it so named him Dusty as his mane looks dusty!
Meggie was called Nutmeg and I didn't think it suited but wanted something similar.

Bridge bunny

Sooty because he was black!

Bridge Bunnies
Boris....just suited him
Jessica....she was a proper lady, used to sit with her front legs full stretch but crossed paws and reminded me of Jessica Rabbit off Who framed Roger Rabbit? very elegant.
Huckney...adopted off a lady who loved the painter David Huckney (already named)

Current Bunnies
Daphne...first name that stuck when I saw her cramped up in a tiny cage at the back of a petshop.
Keith...dont even go there, my bloke decided to name him...I did put my foot down at his first two suggestions 'Derek or Bernard'...can you imagine how embarrassed I was when I register him for his check up at the vets  the nurse came out of the room looked at the card, relooked at the card and very unsure but slightly amused called for Keith the rabbit:oops::oops::oops:
But it does suit him now and makes me smile every time I call him out of the hut.

My two goldfish are called Betty and Wilma as I had 3 before with male names and they died within weeks, got another two called them Fred and Barney and they died..mmm so decided to get two more (one last try) and gave them female names and guess what 2 years later and they are still going strong.

Harvey the cat was Harvey when we adopted him so that stuck but suits him totally. ;)

Barney - because the sanctuary had named him 'Bullseye' which really offended me, for some reason... my mum suggested it, and it immediately suited him! ^^
Amber - the RSPCA named her, and the name seemed to fit very well.
Hazel - because Richard (mullethead on here! ) helped me to rescue her, and he suggested it.
Bella - just 'cos she's so very bee-yooti-ful, and I do so like my 'B' names...

Brdige bunnies:

Benji - who turned out to be female, but I'm now a firm believer in it making an excellent girl name. I was 11, and I wanted a Benjamin Bunny!
Bonnie - she was a very bonnie girlie... and 'Benji & Bonnie' rolled of the tongue so nicely... hehe.

In truth there's quite a lot of work attached to just doing rabbit names, if someone wants to start a separate thread for other animal names then great but I'm just going to stick with the (hopefully) 1000 plus rabbit names !

Present -

Milly and Molly

I wanted two names to sound similar or rhyme as they are sisters and I loved the name Molly, so picked a name which sounded similar, which was Milly and it stuck. When we got them, we picked which one was which (don't know how but Milly looked like a Milly and Molly looked like a Molly) and later found a marking of fur on Milly's back which looks like M I I , like Mil.

Past -

Peter

named after the books, Peter Rabbit. He was a brown or orange dutch, so looked like the rabbit in the books too.

Sophie and Sarah

sisters, and I wasn't old enough to contribute to naming so have no idea how they got them.

Smokey Joe - because he's kind of seal point in colour, very pale grey, almost white over his body and a dark smokey grey on his nose, ears and 'onking great feet (never known bunny foots like it!)

----

Mr Buttons - the name just suited him as he's a lil bit pesky!!

----

Mr Digger - he was originally called diego, but that was hard work so we changed it when started to 'dig' up carpet and towels and duvets and my leg. :S

ZakuraRabbit
04-03-2008, 09:09 PM
Zakura the Killer Rabbit:
Zakura comes from the manga Naruto, originally Sakura, but before I found out what sex she was I called her Zak, which grew to Zakura.
The Killer Rabbit is inspired by Monthy Python and the Holy Grail, because she really is:lol:

Sasuke the Legendary Black Beast:
Like with Zakura, the first name comes from Naruto and the second from Monthy Python.
Sasuke in the manga has black hair and my Sasu is a black bun, so I felt Sasuke the Legendary Black Beast fitted perfectly:D

Vestkystens Romance told by Aroma:
I didn't name her.. she was named by her breeder.
Vestkystens is the name of the rabbitry she is from, Romance told by is the litter-theme. Aroma is her personal name. All of her litter-mates have similar names starting with an A (being the first litter of the year or something I guess).

We have the least original names

Bunny......because he was a little orphan we didn't know if he was going to survive or if we were going to keep him, so didn't name him so we didn't get attached, then he ended up staying.....and when I suggested we give him a name, my boyfriend said he already had a name - Bunny!

and Jessica - as in Jessica Rabbit from the Roger Rabbit film. We're thinking of getting her a red sparkly dress!

Fairy13

Passed buns:

Bambi- My first bun when I was little. He was a sooty fawn so named after another fawn - Bambi from the Disney film

Rabchick - He was the smallest rabbit I've ever seen, literally the size of a chick. My Mum bought him when Bambi died but Rabchick died after a week. He must have been far too small to be away from his Mum  This was so many years ago now and I still feel bad.

Shadow - because he was black and I think Gladiators was on the TV with the one called Shadow. Affectionately known as Shads

Pikachu - My little brothers named him after the Pokemon character

Winston - The wild baby bun my OH's cat caught. We got the cat off and he seemed to be ok but was understandably scared. So we said 'Chill Winston!'. We let him go in the field while we kept the cat in. He ran away and the cat didn't bring him back again :)

Current buns:

Lily - She is white like a Lily and I've always liked the name after I read a book called 'Junk' with someone in it called Lily. Wolfie was named by respondents to my son's Aircraft Forum. Gloria because she is a very glamorous lionhead and reminded me of a 50s film star.

Poppy is called Poppy cos I was having a herb/spice craze and this was the one that suited her best.

Sorrel is called Sorrel because I was onto flowers by then and that was the prettiest one. ;)

Guinness destroys my theme but that was the name he came with and it suited him so well i couldn't bear to change it!

Previous Buns....

Toffee
Caramel
Bumper
Pepper

and just lost Jessica....

Currenttly we have

Pooh Bear
Hazel
Parsley Buttons

Reasons for the names I can't really explain, it just seemed right at the time (excpt Bumper who was a rescue and the home already had a Thumper and as he was partially sighted they called him Bumper)

Whats just as interesting is how buns never seem to keep their names except when they're being bad: I.E. Pepper only got called Pepper if she was being told off for chewing something in the house that she shouldnt be, otherwise she would be called Peppie or Peppie le pew

So our nicknames (which are no means exhaustive goes like this....)and sometimes they don't make any sense....

Toffee.....became Tweet
Caramel.....also became Tweet(They were sisters)
Pepper...became Peppie/Peppie le pew
Bumper...became Mr Bumps
Jessica...became Jessi or Toady(cause she acted like a bad little toad most of the time)
Pooh Bear....became Pooh
Hazel.....Became Hazey Buns
Parsley Buttons.....Became Mr Butties

Don't ask....we're all mad I Know!!!!!!

Mallow - Soft rex fur felt like a marshmallow and shes white.

06-03-2008, 01:18 AM
Starsky - Because he lives... IN A HUTCH! ;)

Must be a teen thing. When we got Holly originally, Christopher wanted to call her Starsky - cos she lives in a hutch - exact same reasoning!!!:lol:

But she was always a Holly and it never stuck.

Polly and Sybil, because my husband wanted two names that had a link and we know another bunny called Basil!

Also the other 'linked' names we thought of involved at least one of the bunnies being a boy!

My current bunnies:-

Poppy: She was called Winnie by her previous owner, I preferred
Poppy.
Scamp: Because he always scampers about.
Bonnie: The name she had at the rescue
Dexy: The name he had at the rescue
Hazel: From suggestions on this forum.

Bunnies at Rainbow Bridge:-

Puff: She looked like a little puff ball when she was a baby.
Flo: She was grumpy, so called her after a cousin, that I did
not get on with.
Starsky: He was a little star. He thought I was his mum.
Scruffy: He was a mucky, smelly, little tyke.
Mavis: After Mavis on Corrie. Scruffy or Starsky got Mavis pregnant
and the following 7 are their babies:

Benjamin: Called after Benjamin Bunny
George: The name suited him.
Rosie: A good name for a bunny
Jemima: Called after Jemima Puddleduck
Smudge: She was brown and had a black smudge on the end of her nose
Tich: He was little
Beaky: Had markings on her nose.

Mindy: A lovely name for a sweet little baby, who died at 8 weeks
Chester: The name he had at the rescue.

Charm - He's my lucky charm and he's got a charmed life.
Destiny - Because I feel it was destiny for me to re-discover my love for bunnies and the tiny in her name is amusing because she's large :P

Rainbow bridge
Daisy - named after a friend
Jordan - named after a horse, till she had babies and became Daisy

My sisters. Do these count?
Lola - she looks like a lola bunny
Bugsy
Bunny
Rabbit (Also nicknamed sperminator by me because he used to have sex with Bugsys head and it was soooo messy!)

Rainbow bridge
Spot - he had a spot of black on his white neck (was a dutch)

Rambo - He was the most adventurous of the 3 little ones we looked at, and not scared either...

Little did I know how much he'd adopt the name... lol :rolleyes:

Grace and Louis
06-03-2008, 01:53 PM
Gracie-Lou Freebush -- from Miss Congeniality, it was a name that just made me giggle and it seemed to suit her after spending 2 days being called Maisy

Louis -- the only name we could agee on that we both liked and that took about 3 days - I wanted to call him Worm and my other half wanted to call him Fonzie

LittleStar
06-03-2008, 01:57 PM
star is called star because when i picked him i didnt know what to call him so my auntie looke dup a list of names for white pets, and i liked the star the best!

Fishcake - Well I came across someone with a cat called fishcake and I always thought it was a really cool name so the rabbit got called it

Haggis - well we have a food theme running for pets names by the look of it lol and she is about the same size as a haggis, it just seemed to suit her.

Shell
06-03-2008, 02:07 PM
Bugsy - the name he had at the rescue
Lola - the name she had at the rescue
Buttons - the name she had at the rescue
Snowy - cos he's white

Bridge bunny Frosty - cos he was white too :)

MiniMonsters
06-03-2008, 02:11 PM
Current
Bertie - goes out to schools, parties occasionally with my creepy crawly roadshow and I like animal names that are easy for children hence Bertie Bunny! Gentle giant! PS we talk about how much space rabbits need, friends, etc, etc
Bongo - named by Sprowston Guinea Pig/Rabbit Rescue, suits him and also gets called Bongo the nutter!

Bridge
Lily - RPSCA bunny, white colour and the most gentle, loving rabbit ever! Was a little flower :)
Pansy & Daisy - also rescue rabbits, already named, Daisy died from eating a feather in her hay - both had been starved twice & would eat literally anything, poor thing:cry:
Cotton - originally 2 rabbits Cotton and Velvet - was given appalling advice (I was a teenager) from big pet shop and after discovering Velvet was male, was told to bring him back and swap for another female. Cotton of course tried to kill the new female (as I was given no advice on introductions) and I ended up with 2 females in 2 separate hutches and Cotton never forgave me and was always
Muppet - was the new female nearly killed by Cotton, very sweet but a bit 'inbred' in appearance bless her
Panda aka Buns - my first bunny in Germany, black and white, elderly and obtained for me by a neighbour who bred rabbits for show (and I suspect meat)

Jocelyn
06-03-2008, 02:32 PM
Shadow because I'm 'funny' as he's mostly white - he was originally called Cherry, when he was a 'she'

Kitten is called that because she looks like a kitten ;)

Kenno
06-03-2008, 02:44 PM
Current Bunnies:

Tomee - Because I got him from my boss as his children had lost interest and his name was Tom and I thought it made him look cuter being called Tomee.

Beatrice aka Bea - Because Nicola named her from the rescue she came from so I didn't want to confuse her changing her name.

Bridge Bunny:

Marble - It was my favourite chocolate bar at the time and he was a combination of white & grey.

tpepaul
06-03-2008, 02:51 PM
Winston & Harry

We got them from a rescue centre, and their names in previous lives were 'Winnie the Pooh' and 'Honeypot'....

Couldn't be doing with that, so we changed them to Winston and Harry. Winston wasn't too far removed from Winnie and suits him as he's a grey lionhead cross - looks kinda fierce! And Harry, well...don;t know where that came from! haha! Just suited him...

My rabbit is called Tinky.
Why? My 30 year old cousin who bought her for me named her. Her name consists out of parts of me and his names.
Tin(the last 3 letters in his name) + ky(the same as the "kie" sound at the end of my name) = Tinky :)

Current bunnies:

Bella - the name just came to me.

Tarquin - named by Sooz. It's such a grand name and he's such a tiny bunny but it suits him completely.

Bridge bunnies:

Harvey - didn't know if he was a girl or a boy for a while so he was either Harvey or Harley. When he was sexed for definite he became Harvey. At the time I didn't realise there was a cartoon bunny (or was it a cartoon, I still don't really know) called Harvey.

Gracie - so called because when I got her she was a gray colour (though she turned more brown).

Dolly Daydream - my beautiful little tiny black bunny who I lost at six months to an abscess on the operating table.

Gypsy Rose - the bunny responsible for my love of rabbits, even though she was the rabbit from hell and sadly didn't live the life she should have because I didn't know any better, even though I loved her dearly.

starting from the bunnies who are at the bridge. i used to have
Lucky: who was lucky we saved her bless her heart (originally amy as she ran round and round and was easily stressed like someone at the previous owners work grr)
starskey: had an attitude when we got her she already was called this and we left her as she came to it...plus i will never forget the awful hutch she was in she couldnt even turn around when we took her in.
Chocolate-cake who was originally sooty rabbit when we took her from rescue as im more fond of food and she was so gorgeous and loverly

current bun:
chelsea became chelsea bun who was originally a boy called greg  nope definatly a little girl, and chelsea bun suited her especially as she lived paired with chocolate cake...(nb we shortnd it to chels nad choccy when calling them!)

the preloved buns
with their original names still as if i rename them im worried i wont be as able to find them a new home as il get too attatched...
snowy(white nethie with blue eyes)
dora(the explorer who is scared of everything)
however if i was to rename them it would be kitten (snowy) as she cant understand she not a cat she has even taken to sitting on the tree stump in our garden with next doors fluffy cat regardless that dora goes off and sulks.she likes her harness and when playing inside loves to jump on sofa on your lap and give you a good licking.
dora is not an explorer and i duno what would call her tho instead there are so many that suit her!.

08-03-2008, 07:46 PM
Radar was named after his Uncle Radar who I met (as well as his parents) when I collected him.

Ruby was originally to be a steel doe conti and I already had the name picked out so when I found her instead I just kept it - she might not have ruby eyes but she is a gem!

Dexter and Monty were just random names that suited them, and stuck.

Inca and Liquorice were stolen from cats with the same names at work.

Fraggle was named after Fraggle Rock as she looks like one. It was also my favourite programme as a kid.

Jester was named because of his harlequin markings;) He is also a clown so its fits well!

Dennis was again, just random. He was originally named Leroy by his first owners but many of my friends didn't like it. Hes certainly a menace - the name fits him perfectly!:lol:

Other pets

Mia is latin for "mine." After our family pet died my parents had gone on about how any new dog would be souly my responsibility... :)

Haggis was named by my Scottish friend Shazza ;)

Monty2 was named by my nephew

Sunny ...obvious...

Bazil just suited him...

Rufus as he is black with a gingery red strike across his head

Elvis as he has a quiff

Pringle just stuck...

Chilli and Mocha because of their markings

He was already named Tobias when we adopted him.... but we felt Toby suited him better! :D

Piper is because I wanted to name her Penelope and call her Penny and hubby thought that was dumb, so he suggested Piper

Alfred is because of the butler from Batman and I love silly human names used on pets. The other choices were Winston and Nigel...:lol:

Midge - from Mary, Mungo and Midge (bet half of you don't remember that kids programme!)
Titch - 'cos she was small - once!
Strawberry - named by daughter after Lou's white giant at the rescue

OK......:D

Benny and Pepsi were in rescue called Flopsy and Levi  For some unfathomable reason, I called them Benji and Pepsi

Then I adopted the 5 girls - and I wanted a 'group' naming - so I got their names from The Darling Buds of May, which I loved :D

Tia, sadly no longer here, was named by my son, who is a Myst fan - Tiana :)

The 21 piggies were initially 14, 2 pregnant, rescued from a breeder giving up breeding - I stayed awake till 3am writing a long list of names I liked - and when I met them, there was a name to 'fit' all of them except Sabrina - she should have been Gladys, but it just wasn't right - the name Sabrina popped into my head :)

Mimi was initially named "Belle" (Beauty & the Beast), but it just didn't suit her. Her name was inspired by RENT plus there's a cute line about that name in The Drowsy Chaperone :)

My childhood bunny was Thumper, just like the one from Bambi, grey and all. Ironically, he never thumped (something Mimi's no stranger to doing! haha).

Sweet Pea - because I misheard in the rescue place and thought that was what he was called (he was actually called 'sweep' - I did think sweet pea was a bit odd for a black nethie!!) He was our first bun and he is still with us 8 years on!

Parsnip (Bridge bun) - because she was brownish like an organic parsnip and by starting with Sweet Pea we had decided on flower and vegetables and fruits!

Bramble (Bridge Bun) - black! (sister of Parsnip)

Damson: because he is mischeavous and came with

Quince: (Bridge Bun): his sister - they sounded like two of the comedy characters from a Shakespeare play!

We were well set on fruits/flowers etc by then!!

Sage (Bridge Bun): because when she first came to us very very ill we used sage leaf distillation to try and soothe and disinfect her bottom

Mulberry: - well we just liked it and it seemed to go with quince and damson.

Bluebell: because she is a Vienna Blue

Florence (Bridge Bun); because she had been called that for 2 years in the rescue she was in - and after all you can get Florence Fennel

Teasal: because he is grey and white a fluffy like a teasal head in seed

Blackberry: because he is black

Pumpkin: because she is the colour of a butternut squash (and you couldn't call a bunny Squash!!)

Parsley: because we found him on the allotments near the parsley patch

Peaches: because she has bum fluff like a fluffy peach (lop lion head with long bum straggles)!! and is orangeish.

Robinia (psedoaccacia): well - Robinia just seemed to suit her!! and we were running out of trees!

Willow: because its a lovely name. (and as my surname is Way, she gets called 'Wilow Way' at the vets - which is lovelier still!)

Snowdrop (Bridge Bun): my lovely Snowy - died so so young. Was called Snowball at the rescue so we changed it to a flower name. He only stayed the length of time a snowdrop is in flower in the end. So sad.

13-03-2008, 12:24 AM
Squidgy - already named when he came to me as he has a Squidgy little squashed up face!

Bobby = Bobtail - he needed a tough name, as he's a tough sort of bun. Otherwise known as the bruiser!

Ruby - already named in rescue and I don't like to change their names

Salt and Pepper - as Ruby, already named, but as they are black and white, easy to see why!

mandy&arthur

Sarah86
13-03-2008, 02:03 PM
Charlie- because he's a mischeivous little bun and we call him 'Cheeky Charlie' or King Charles because he thinks he owns the place, it took us a while to name him but I wanted to get to know his character first.

Poppy- Formerly known as Jet but I know people with dogs called Jet and thought she needed a pretty name to match her pretty appearence and sweet nature, I also liked 'Ebony' but o/h wasn't keen. Since coming out of her shell more we've got to know her personality and she often gets called 'Princess Poppy' because she's a bit of a spoilt madam

mrs munkee
13-03-2008, 09:46 PM
well we have cadbury, which was his name when we got him and obviously because of his gorgeous velvety chocolate colour (although he's looking a bit faded with his summercoat coming through)

Minstrel, because we decided to follow the chocolate theme and she has a brown splodge on her nose which looks like she's stuck her head in a bag of minstrels.

My bridge bunnies from childhood are pepper who was a black and white english dwarf lop (she was named by my sister) and there was her sister bella who i named after a bunny in a story book.

How's the count going Neil?

Just trying to cadge and cajole as many responses as possible at the moment but I've got a feeling it's going to be a lot more wide open than last year when we had a clear winner with 14 followed by two names on 10, 6 with 8 and 4 with 7.

Pom Pom, she looked like one!
Peter, from Beatrix Potter books,
Molly, just liked the name
Mopsey, from Beatrix Potter book again!
Jessica, liked the name

Present buns,

Hobbes, from Calvin and Hobbes comic strip.
Phoebe, very fluffy and looks like a furby so Phoebe was a similar name.
Amber, liked the name and matches her colour.
Dexter, kind of goes with Amber :?

When you put amber and dexter together it kind of sounds like ambidextrous

I spend ages going through about a million names every time I name a new animal until I find one that feels right.

The names of past rabbits are

Jazz (as soon as I said it it felt right)
Shandy (came with the name)
Fulham (my dad picked it cos he was black and white which are the Fulham FC colours)
Lucky (because if I hadn't taken him home that night he was going to be PTS)

Flopsy (I couldn't come up with anything that suited her and she was a lop  )
Ellie (it suited her)
Beatrice (came as a boarder and stayed by which point we'd all got used to calling her BB)

Current rabbits are

Jack (he came with the name Floppy but it didn't suit him so I finally decided on Jack)
Harry (came with the name Mishmash but I think he's defo more of a Harry)
Smudge (my OH named him, apparently he looks like he's stuck his head up a chimney )
Jasper (again my OH's choice, because he's white like a ghost... I did point out the ghost was called Casper but we both preferred Jasper)

Emily (came with the name and I think it really suits her)
Poppy (came with the name)
Willow (I just came up with 2 names that worked together, that I liked because these ladies were only supposed to be fosters )
Bracken (see Willow for reason)

Previous rabbit

Britannia, usually just Brit (also 'that damned rabbit') A birthday present  when I was in my teens. Her dad won best of breed at Bradford in the days when it was at Doncaster. Originally named Sherry but had a habit of lurking in dark places and leaping out and attacking my father whenever he passed so was renamed on the basis of the old saying the the sun never sets on the British Empire because God doesn't trust the British in the dark.

Current rabbits

Pineapple - Found by me as a stray and originally named Parsnip as this was the only thing she'd eat at first. Very little went in and nothing came out for almost 48 hours so I offered her pineapple on a just-in-case basis though she didn't eat that either. Allowing my partner to name her Pineapple instead of Parsnip seemed a very good tactic in the shall-we-keep-the-bunny? campaign.

Peppercorn - we kept his name from Hopper Haven. One of the Birmingham 64.

Vanessa-nessa
14-03-2008, 09:41 AM
Past rabbits - Joe, big black boy, Fizz, little white boy

Current rabbit - Vanessa (name suggested by my daughter. Once we'd agreed on it, she told me she chose it because its the name of the actress from High School Musical)

We also had fosters Holly, Hope and Joseph who were named with a Christmas theme as thats when they arrived.

My sister named her bun Richie as mine was called Lionel!! and his girlfriend was already named Phoebe when adopted.

Bit late to this but here goes-

Daisy- a real common rabbit name I know but named after a lovely cat I had a few years ago

Bluebell- wanted another flower name, she's a bluey grey lop

Rose- yet another flower- just liked the name!

Blackberry- broke with the flower tradition- my children wanted to call her that- she IS jet black, I wanted 'Tulip'!

We have Poppy the ginger cat too.

Flip - originally called Flip Flop cause of her big flipper feet and floppy ears!
Storm - she came to us with that name
Decca - our three-legged bun sort of named after Colonel Decker from the A-Team (who was always one step behind) but sort of named after the record label
CJ - full name Claudia-Jean, named after the West Wing character
Cooper - named for special agent Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks

BentleyJen
21-03-2008, 01:41 PM
present buns:
Jenny and Bentley (hence the user name) are my two sister rabbits. I got them from a local pet shop as no one wanted them because they were fully grown and Bentley was so skitty. No particular reason for the names just seemed fitting at the time. My other half gets confused so they are sometimes known and Benny and Gentley!

Past buns: Heather, Parsley, Sooty and Snowy

My bunnies have what my dad has termed crazy names  I like unique names though.

Mona-- My mum named her after a rabbit she knew as a child called Mona
Elidore-- is a Scottish Gaelic name I came upon in a book of Celtic fairytales, it means Lad of the Pixies.
Bonnie-- Although are popular name it suited her right down to the ground, she's a Scottish bun, and its a Scottish word and she is bonnie to look at :D
Merridore-- A name I made up for Bonnies brother and derived from Elidore as Merri (for short) is his son.
Ebonnie-- Again a popular name but she suits it and is black of course.
Nori-- He's a mini Dutch and the name came from a dwarf character in Tolkien's The Hobbit.
Emrys-- Welsh name my sister chose and means Immortal.
Rowaneberrie-- Weird spelling but she is named after the Rowan tree in our garden and it suits her down to the ground.

Bridge Buns

Karma-- She is the mum to Merri, Bonnie and Ebonnie. I named her after the Song Instant Karma by John Lennon.
Mithril-- She was a silver chinchilla rabbit and Mithril is Elvish for true silver (you can tell we like Lord of the Rings in our house)
Pippin--Merri's brother and named after Pippin from LOTR. Pippin and Merri get it?
Narya-- Elvish for fire
Nenya-- Elvish for water
Silvere Rose-- Another Chinchilla, very regal and divine she was
Karmella-- Karma's daughter named after her with a slight variation.

My two new girls (who im missing heaps) are called Alaska and Arizona.

I named them so because I already have a Dallas and me and my son could not agree on names - he wanted Snowbell and Snowshoe and I wanted Isis and Aradia, so we ended up going with the places theme.
They are both going to be big white buns so Alaska is for white snow and Arizona represents white sands. :)

24-03-2008, 10:55 PM
Lost and loved buns:

Flintstone - Bun I got for my 10th birthday, just after we saw the Flintstones movie and she was flintstone in colour. She lived until she was 10.

Fluff - Got her from my Aunt to be. Cant remember why tho?

Shadow - Because she was black.

Monty - I got him not long after seeing a Monty Roberts demonstration.

Spot - He was a black and white english, with spots!!

Betty - Used to live with Barney until I lost her last year. Carrying on the Flintstone theme.

Currant buns:

Barney - Flintstones theme. Suits the name tho.

Bubbles - I looked after her at work when she had serious bloat. I nicknamed her "little bubble" as she was so bloated and sat with her for hours while on my breaks willing her to live. Fell in love and had to bring her home!

Tippex - Was pure white as a baby, now has some cute grey streaks and a nice grey tail. She was going to be Pebbles as she lives with her Brother Bambam, but couldn't get it to stick!

Bam Bam - brother of Tippex and following the Flintstones theme. Really suits the name as he is a nightmare!

Shy Boy - Again named after Monty Roberts. Brother of Tippex and Bam Bam

Wiggles - Named when I got her. I can see why because the whole bunny wiggles when she gets excited!!

Our 4 are as follows.

Daisy - BUBBLES(O/H) just choose these names as they were sisters they needed to be identical

Maisy - BUBBLES(O/H) just choose these names as they were sisters they needed to be identical

Mr Sniffs - I couldnt remember his previous name when we were discussing rehoming him, so i called him ole sniffy balls......He previous name was Etoile(think its french for Star).

Squidgy aka Vinnie - Was original called Squidgy Sunshine after Bubbles Grandad, was just shorten to Squidgy, but he also called Vinnie (due to part of his ear missing)

we've got sam - who's sam - because nick likes that name, and i wasnt going to argue i was just happy at him agreeing to a bunny!!!

she often gets samantha tho...more so as she's got older....cos she's become a stubborn lady!or even samantha jane (she adopted my middle name) when she's properly misbehaving.

domino, well he came to us as a domino, via bunnymadhouse, and i'd say the black sopots were the reason it was chose? we didnt wnat to rename him as we'd been calling himd omino teh whole time we went through the adoption process so it just stuck.

Teapot & Porkpie - our first buns - named by son and these were his favourite words!

Nibbles - named by son - cos rabbits nibble grass!

Donut - named by kids - cos he was the colour of a doughnut!

Hank - named by me and OH - just wanted something different - she was black and I suggested Shadow - Hank Harvin - hence, her name.

Bailey - named by son who had had his very first taste of Baileys the night before.

Sheridan - named by all of us, named after Sheridans the drink and we thought it went with Bailey.

I have 3 buns. The first guy is named Gus...I tried to let my 3 year old daughter help name them all, Gus was the first bunnie we got and she wanted to name him Amy Whinehouse. But I opted for Gus instead. Then came Helen, whose original name was Ellen, so we just added an H. And our newest addition my daughter did name, she is a flemish giant, we had just watched the movie Popeye so my daughter wanted to name her Popeye but when I said that she is a girl, she picked Olive and that is the perfect name for her.:D

Current Bunnies:-

Honey - Called her this because when I picked her up from the rescue she kept licking me all the time and I thought it was sweet, hence Honey.

Smudge - Just rescued him a couple of weeks ago and he was already called this and it suits him due to his colour.

Buns who have gone to the Bridge:-

Benjamin Bunny (Benjy) - From the Beatrix Potter character
Jake - After the Blues brothers, had a Guinea Pig called Elwood at the same time.
Crunchie - Because my husband said she was the colour of the honeycomb inside a crunchie bar.
Cuddles - Because I liked the name
