Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Little piddles - time to neuter?

Biscuits

Young Bun
We have had our new bun for just over a week..he's a 3 month old un-neutered lionhead we got from a rescue. He is kept in a hutch outside during the day but in the evenings comes in the house with us. Towards the end of last week he has started doing little piddles indoors but nothing substantial. Our old bunny (who was an unneutered male) never did this. Now we're wondering if our new bun is just weeing, or perhaps whether he can smell Basil and is marking his territory? (Basil died just before christmas). He doesn't spray, just crouches. If it's territory marking will neutering stop him? I've never had rabbit neutered before, Basil never really was a problem and lived alone so there was no need.

Thanks!

Hello!
The reason your new bunny is peeing inside could be either because he just 'needs to go' or at 3 months he is becoming hormonal and territorial so needs to mark his patch. Do you give him a litter tray when he comes into the house? This would be a help, rather than asking him to hold it in!

Also you could get him neutered as soon as your vet thinks he is old enough. This will stop any more territorial marking and hopefully prevent any other hormonal behaviour.

Neutering will help the little guy, hormones can be very confusing for a bun. Also once he is neutered you can get him a friend, buns just love snuggling with a partner, you will probably need to get a bigger hutch and run but bunny will be so much happier :D
