  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi Everyone, could Anyone Help As I Got A New Rabbit From A Rescue 3 Days Ago And His Poos Are Small And Very Hard In Which You Cant Crumble Them Is This Constipation Or Not I Have A Doe Aswell And Her Are Good,i Dont Know If All Rabbits Poos Should Be The Same Or They Vary, ive Seen You Can Give Them A Couple Of Blackbeery Leaves To Help Them (is This True) Please Help.

If you feed minimal pellets and lots of hay and grass (if he is used to it) you will soon notice a big difference in the size and consistency of their poo.

I personally don't know about the blackberry leaves helping with digestive probs but I have heard that they are safe to eat but as with any new foods don;t give too much at once. Poos should be nice and round, not wet but they sometimes have a slight film, like Teflon! They shouldn't be strung together. It's ok if you crush them and they are dryish inside, you should be able to see all the tiny pieces of hay.

If you are worried post a pic and people will be able to say if they are normal looking or not :D

I wouldnt take the pellets totally away, just in case he is reluctant to eat hay. I would slowly reduce the amount offering lots and lots of hay. Some people do keep their buns on minimal pellets with plenty of different types of hay, this is a really healthy diet and good for dental buns and those who are prone to GI problems.
