WW: Forage Photo Competition

I walked home carrying a pile like that the other day, people must wonder why on earth loads of people are wondering around with half trees this time of year!

I'm just waiting for all the buddies to pick and I'll let you know the winners :)

Tamsin we go to the car park at the Three Locks. It's been left to totally over grow. There are willow and apple trees growing down to the ground plus lots of hawthorn and brambles.

It use to be such a lovely place but now the car park seems to be used for fly tipping . But still great for foraging!

Our neighbours on the industrial estate are used to it! Matt got asked if he had a goat

That's a shame, at least the bunnies are benefiting though!

There are two giant ones in the centre of the green at the bottom of my road.. obviously I don't need to cater to quite so many tummies so plenty for Scamp.

The fields around blue bell wood are full of plantain atm

Do you know, all the years I've lived here and I've never visited bluebell woods. I got my plantain from a field by The Globe.

In the mornings I tumble over my back garden wall to forage for the bunnies, unwashed, hair on end & still in my pyjamas (plus anorak) & wielding secateurs . When dog walkers come by I invariably scurry deeper in to the undergrowth to avoid eye contact. OH has been known to forage in his bear onesie at less discrete times of day . God knows what people think

It's a similar story here. I've also been in my suit, trousers rolled up, wellies on before work when I've realised I'm short of breakfast.....

There's one benefit to having a big overgrown somewhat neglected garden like mine! There's loads I can collect without even leaving my property.

I could probably collect 20 different plants from my garden tomorrow, but I usually aim for 10. :) My boys absolutely love it!

if Mabel doesn't like Borage there are many other types of forage she might enjoy ;)

Yes there isn't much she turns her nose up to but she looked at me like I was mad on the occasions I tried them lol. She loves nettle roots and dandelion we got from shop so I think she will love the nettles

Soon excited!! Went out this evening and found loads of Hawthorne !!! Buns like it. Cody more than Oliver. Many thanks joey&boo for ur pics. They were excellent. We spotted the Hawthorne straight away.

Yay! I'm so pleased to hear that. I love rabbits enjoying forage, it's so natural and healthy for them and best of all it's FREE. ;)

Did you find that they nibbled all the leaves off first and then ate the stems later?

You're very welcome. once you've spotted it you'll no doubt see it everywhere. Does there be berries on the stuff you got Cody & Oliver?:lol:

(my apologies, I'm easily entertained & have had untold mileage out of this one - can't get it to work with a scouse accent though most, kind of , work ...)

Lol yes there does be berries it !! I am easy amused also. Picked them off. Yes Cody ate the leaves first and started nibbling the branches later. Yes i saw it everywhere after that. Now I want to find some plantain but maybe it's out of season?? Where i found the hawthorn was foragers dream . It's a long lane behind a graveyard loads of different things. I saw the crab apple tree that I remembered from my childhood but as there were no apples on it or rotting beneath it i didnwant to take a chance that it defo was the crab apple.

There's still lots of plantain in my garden (Derbyshire) so I image there will still be some where you are (unless you're in the Arctic;)).
