• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Why are my rabbits walking oddly and dipping their front feet in water?

Hi guys! My grandpa texted me today and told me a few of our calis are walking like their feet are hot…if that makes sense? He told me a few of them are putting their front feet into the water bowl, and patting their front feet up and down when walking. Do you guys know if something specific is causing this?

We’ve raised rabbits for over a decade and have never had this issue, so we aren’t sure what is going on with them.

(I’m not home, so I can’t check for myself)

Absolutely impossible to say what’s going on. Any abnormal behaviour merits a Vet check, if numerous Rabbits are affected it’s suggestive of a pathogen in the environment.

With no other information such as are the Rabbits eating and pooping normally, how old are they, are they exhibiting any signs of unsteadiness on their feet/ head tilt/ week back legs? Is there any sign of inflammation on their feet ? Are they housed in wire based cages, no-one on here can offer you advice other than to get the Rabbits Vet checked.

Are they Meat Rabbits ?
