Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

What’s wrong with my bun?

Just after some advice. My 3 year old netherland dwarf rabbit hasn’t been eating properly since Friday evening. She’s picking at her hay but nothing else. I’ve offered her pellets and some coriander and some greens, she did eat those earlier yesterday and this morning (Sunday). She’s not passed proper stools they are all clumped up. I syringes fed her three times throughout yesterday. She seems herself and she eats her little treats when I offer them to her but she’s not eating properly.

A few days before yesterday she’s been getting loose stools as when she has too many greens it goes all loose. I believe she may just be a bit bloated or has a bit of an upset tummy or maybe it’s something to do with her due to not ”wanting” to eat her pellets. Correct me if I’m wrong

Is she going into a GI statis? What can I do to prevent this?

The best thing you can do is to take your bunny to your vet for a proper examination. She's clearly got a problem with her digestion, but what it is, is really impossible to determine without a thorough abdominal examination. The fact that her poops are abnormal is a clear indication of a problem, together with her not eating normally. Also it is actually important to have a blood glucose test performed by your vet to determine whether she has a blockage or not. I would urge you not to syringe-feed her until a blockage is definitely ruled out. If I were you, I would restrict her food to what she would normally eat, ie mostly hay with some pellets and herbs. It's probably sensible not to feed her greens until she has been examined. A dental check would also be sensible.

I hope that you can get her seen by the vet asap and that the vet can help her.

Thank you. Unfortunately I can’t contact my vet till tomorrow (Monday) as they are shut today. I will feed her what she is actually eating, ie hay, herbs that’s all she is eating. She has eaten her greens mainly kale and coriander I’ve been giving her, her two favourite things. I won’t syringe feed her anymore until I get her checked. Hopefully I can get her in tomorrow for a check up

That sounds like a really sensible plan ❤️ Your vet should be able to see her if you explain her symptoms. I hope she gets on OK.

This is just an update on my bun. Really don’t know what happened but she is completely fine now 🥰

4 days of being unwell, no eating a great deal and therefore not going toilet like usual but after some cuddles and loving and giving her things she did eat like kale and hay she has come out the other end ☺️

No I didn’t end up taking her. She started to perk up and I didn’t want to disturb her or stress her out with taking her to the vets. Obviously I would have taken her if she was going down hill again but she’s eating well again and drink! Every morning her water bowl is empty. She’s also popping for England. ☺️

How brilliant. I had a rabbit (Frosty rip) who would get stasis and not eat properly and often just encouraging him to move around and giving him brambles would do the trick. Like you I would have taken him to the vet if needed but usually he was fine by himself.

Is good for rabbits to eat hay, my vet told me that their meals should be consisting of 70% hay . I have a 9 year old female and i had an 8 year old that passed last year because of kidney mail function
