New Kit
I would like to preface this by saying that I have already seen two different vets about this issue and gotten no help. I really can't afford to spend even more on vet visits that don't solve anything.
*The Issue*
My female rabbit Strawberry has had near constant discharge from her left eye for the past few months to a year. I brought her into a non rabbit savvy vet, and was told that she did not have any abrasions on her eyes and she did not have an infection. I then brought her to our regular rabbit savvy vet, and was told the same thing. She doesn't have an infection, doesn't have a clogged duct, and she doesn't have noticable teeth issues.
*What I've Tried and Witnessed*
I was told to try giving her children's Benadryl without sorbitol, and see if that helped with the issue since she doesn't have an infection. This did not help, and instead just stressed her out and made her hate me. I then witnessed strawberry tilting her head (bad eye down) into dust left in her food dish. I can't take away this food dish entirely, because without pellets she loses quite a lot of weight. I still tried that though, and she still had one bad eye. I even bought a new hay rack for their litter boxes to help cut down on dust in their hay and it didn't help. I have also witnessed both strawberry, and her two mates kind of gnawing on each other faces? I don't know how else to explain it, but instead of licking their whole face, they lightly gnaw on the fur on each other's cheeks. BUT, only Strawberry has eye issues, and it's only ONE eye.
*Don't Know What to do*
I'm really just at a loss at this point. It doesn't seem to be actively bothering strawberry, but she has a wet eye all the time. She also isn't missing any fur around the eye, and her eye does not appear red at all. I think she is somehow getting dust in her eye, but I don't know how.
*Her Living Arrangements*
She has a ferret cage (with two levels) that hold two cat litter boxes. Both boxes has pine pellets, a hay rack, and extra hay on top of the pellets. She also has free range of my room 24/7 where she can walk in carpet, hardwood, and can jump up on my bed. She also has a large water container, and an automatic pellet dispenser. She still has this issue with a small bowl of pellets instead of a dispenser, and when they just had loose hay instead of the racks. I wipe down her face with baby wipes and/or a damp towel about twice weekly, and it doesn't help either. Neither of her mates have this issue, and I don't know why.
Please give me any advice you have, because I need it. I am at a complete loss as to how to help her with this eye. I have attached a photo of Strawberry as well as a photo of the cage they have. They are NEVER stuck in this cage, and it doesn't even have doors. You can't see the wetness very well, but her fur around the eye is wet to the touch.
