• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vibes for Gracie :(

Oh I'm so sorry, I suspect something was going on before you had her, sounds like she finally relaxed at yours :(

Sending more hugs this morning. I've been thinking about your sad news yesterday. Doesn't life have a way of throwing a wrecking ball to plans that we make. Sending lots of vibes that Terry remains OK.

Thank you both. It's hard to gauge how Terry is given how short a time we've had him, but he seems pretty similar to how he was before Gracie passed. He has a box filled with hay that he likes digging in and pushing out all the hay, so I've been making a game of putting some back in for him to take out again. I've been sitting on the floor with him, he doesn't really come over but he doesn't mind being stroked at all. I'm not really sure what to do for the best for him in terms of solo/bonding again, but it's all too raw so it wouldn't be appropriate to make a decision so soon. Still feels incredibly unfair what happened to Gracie but I know she had a long life where she was much loved, both by her previous owners, everyone at the rescue and us for the short time we had her.

I did her insurance claim today and it felt really callous. Like I know that's what it's for but at the same time I barely knew her and have to submit this awful claim. I emailed the rescue centre as well and gave them the details of my vets in case they want to contact them about anything. Just feels really rubbish still and I feel SO guilty for Terry. Whenever I have lost rabbits before it's been easier to gauge how the other one is coping because I've known them so well. With him it's all a bit of guesswork and trying to ascertain what's his "normal".
