• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vibes for Gracie :(

I can't believe I'm posting this already but Gracie is at the vets this morning. She was fine last night and eating/drinking normally when I went to bed. This morning she was lying down breathing really fast and refused food. I rushed her in and she's been admitted for scans. Her glucose was normal, her chest sounds normal, her tummy was a little quieter but not gassy like a normal status episode might suggest. She's in the best possible hands and I bought Terry to keep her company, hoping for a positive update soon.

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry :(

I hope it's not something serious. She hasn't been as settled as Terry has she, so maybe it's not something recent.
Sending her loads of vibes.

She crashed at the vets and has passed. I am absolutely devastated 💔 she seemed so much more settled yesterday and was seemingly doing okay. I don't understand 😢

I'm so sorry  Did the vet have any suggestions as to why? My guess would be something that's not new. How horrible for you though. Sending lots of hugs.

They did offer a post-mortem to try and find out but I've declined, it will gnaw away at me but in my head it won't change anything. Forgot to say they were both vaccinated in January as well. They didn't think it was anything contagious as I was worried about Terry as well, he still seems ok although I am paranoid about every movement he makes right now. I'm glad he was with her at least, but I just feel so gutted that I'd wanted to give them both a retirement home and it ended like this. I've never lost a rabbit quite so suddenly and violently, and now I have to tell the rescue what's happened.

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry, this must be so horrible for you 😢. I'm sending you and Terry big hugs and big vibes. Binky free Gracie 💔

Thank you. I knew we would only have limited tile due to her age but just didn't anticipate it being so soon.

So sorry. I also suspect that there was something going on in the background that just hadn't surfaced enough to recognise, and she had finally got to relax enough that she succumbed. She was in a good place and well cared for, so you should be proud to have those last memories of her in her forever home. Look after Terry - he's had so many big changes to deal with as well.

Take care.

Thanks all. I've booked Terry in for a general checkup at the weekend, which I had planned to do anyway but especially in light of what's happened. In the meantime I'll keep a close eye on him and continue trying to build a bond with him.

I am so sorry to read your heartbreaking update. I am so sad for you that you didn't get to spend more time with graice. What an awful shock for you. Sending so many hugs.
I hope Terry manages ok.

sweet dreams little Gracie xx

Thanks all. I've sat with him reading a book this evening, he seems ok touch wood. Time to adjust to life with a solo bun again 😔

I am sorry you and Terry lost your furry friend. She left this world as a beloved pet so you are to be commended to take on the challenges of older bunnies.

I'm so very sorry to read this. Sending soothing vibes to you and Terry. What a terrible shock. 😢
Thinking of you at this distressing time. xxxx

Thanks everyone. Just sitting with him for a bit this morning before I go into the office, he seems okay. So hard to tell when you don't know them properly yet, he seems to be quite a calm boy in general unless he's in his digging box having a play.
