• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vet recommendations - Stockton-on-Tees

Hello,

I am looking for a rabbit-savvy vet in the Billingham area, our old vet is in Darlington and I'm worried it will be too far to go if something urgent happens.

Thanks in advance 😊

Hiya, I'm located in Darlington. Sadly, there are currently no RWAF approved vets in the Darlington, Middlesbrough area.

I currently use Medivet Darlington which used to be Stanhope Park Veterinary Hospital before the vet/owner retired and sold the business.

To be honest it has gone very corporate since the sale, they've been having problems (like other vets I suppose) in retaining the vets and have closed the exotics branch. A few of the more rabbit savvy vets have moved on, although I've not had any problems with treatment as such but I have had communication issues, problems with claims, etc.

Also their out-of-hours services is now provided by the branch in Thirsk, which is ridiculous to travel in an emergency. I don't think any vets in Darlington have OOH's services located within Darlington sadly, not even Grange Road.

I have heard really good things about Jacqui Paterson's Vets for exotic animals, they has 3 practices located in Hartburn, Preston Farm & Nunthrope. The Preston Farm branch also has Vets Now located in the building who provide the OOH's services.

Not sure about the practice, but I will recommend the veterinary surgeon Andrew Cloney at Vets4Pets Middlesbrough (Cleveland Park Vets). Him and his wife used to work at my vets around 9-10 years ago, he left and set up the practice in Middlesbrough. He was an excellent exotics vets, I was sad to see him leave and did consider following him. But at the time my vets had decided to the open the exotics branch and had a brunch of really great rabbit savvy vets.

Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed response. I am in Billingham now, so Jacqui Patterson or Andrew Cloney are probably my best options - I will contact both and see how we get on
