• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Using Glucosamine for arthritis in a rabbit. Update: Relapse:(

Hi - I'm bunlover's mum.
Her rabbit Chelsea had a course of Cartrophen injections once a week for 4 weeks and the course repeated every 6months. Each course cost about 45 pounds.

It made a remarkable difference to Chelsea's agility. Chelsea was about 8 yrs at the time I think, and had the courses till she went to the Bridge at nearly 12yrs.
It made a big difference to the quality of her life in later years.

Thank You, Pretty Lupin and Thumps

Not being able to reach the bottom to clean properly can certainly be a symptom of arthritis . . . Difficulty bending the lower spine may be more likely attributable to spondylosis for example and calcification of the lower veterbrae? Does your bun have other mobility issues?

I want to say a big Thank You! to Pretty Lupin and Thumps, for their tremendous advice and encouragement.

After just a couple of weeks using Joint Aid for Cats, we could see some improvement. Long before she finished the tub - she was back to her old self.
She is now doing very well on Easeflex Equine Joint Nutrient Pellets for Horses :

We have our dancing rabbit back - high skips in all directions and moonwalking the length of the room.

We were more than happy with the results; but I still mentioned it to the vet ie she'd had a problem but was doing well with the supplements.
He was quite dismissive - said she'd do better if she lost some weight.
I was aghast.
I asked how much weight had she put on since her last visit - he checked and said she was the exact same weight.
I let it go; but I am wondering . . how is it that every other vet thinks that that is the perfect weight for her?

It is the first time we've seen this vet, and he was brilliant with our cat.
We recently moved house, so we're with a new practice - their other two vets said she was the ideal weight.

After she was spayed she gained weight, and we had to put her on a slimming regime. I don't want to do that again.
Every vet visit, for years, I asked if her weight is okay - sometimes they looked surprised that I'd asked.
I'd rather take steps sooner, than let it get out of hand. (Seeing her every day, I might not notice - she is a perfect beauty to me.)
So I think that as long as she stays the same weight, I won't worry about it . . we'll have a second opinion on our next visit.

I am sorry to see that Nino had another upset . . . <I've had to edit this. I checked for news >

I am so very sorry to learn of your loss - he was very lucky to have had such a happy, loving home.

Please forgive me if it was inappropriate for me to post - I can't think straight now.

At least there is some good news - Congratulations on your beautiful baby boy.

 Thank you so much for posting your good news Atifa.
It has cheered me up greatly to hear that your bun has a new lease of life.:D
I am also very saddened by Nino's passing. He was a very special bunny. We all need some joy in the midst of our grief.
It's so rewarding to think that forum members have helped to bring that about. Pure joy. :D Thank you.

Not inappropriate at all

Thank you so much for your kind words, and I really am truly thrilled to hear how much better she is and I hope you have many more times of moonwalking and binkying  x
