Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Unbearable guilt :-(

I hope he continues to make good progress. I'd monitor his poo output closely to make sure that his GI tract continues to function whilst he is unable to eat much in the way of crude fibre xx

What should I be looking for. He has been going, although less than usual and they are small and hard. I think he may have been eating them too. Is that normal?

Poor boy! Sending get well vibes for him.

Echoing what everyone else has said, don't feel bad at all! Yesterday I kicked the guinea (well, he ran in front of me when I was walking  ) the day before that, I nearly shut my aunties dog in the door, then the day before THAT a duck decided a good place to sit was right behind where I was standing... so I sort of shifted my foot and shunted him across the floor

It happens!

Good lad Deisel, keep up the nomming and pooing.... Going the right Way?, what a good boy..

Hope you feel better soon..

He is gorgeous! He looks rather sorry for himself, bless him.

Buns sometimes eat poo when they are on meds. I think they do as well if they are not getting enough fibre in. Tbh, one of my buns eats their poo sometimes for no reason at all.

Is he eating his cecals?

I would expect his poos to be smaller and blacker because he is not getting the fibre he should be getting. Can you put some proC or something in his water? Might just help his guts cope a bit more. x

He is eating his cecals!

He is also eating so much better this morning. Everything I left for him last night was gone this morning. :D

I was just wondering, if there are any softer hays I can get in ready for when he is allowed it again? The last stuff I bought was from pets at home and although he usually eats this fine, I wanted something much nicer so he is more tempted to eat when the time comes. x

If Parsnipbun is still selling it, this hay is fantastic http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/showthread.php?404907-UD-POST-70-willow-leaves-and-apple-crisp-options-added-Box-Wonderful-Hay

Morning everyone,

Firstly I just wanted to thank everyone for your wise words and support. I definitely felt a little out of my depth in the past week and it has really helped to be able to ask advice etc.

Well, Diesel seems to be doing OK. He is eating a good amount, obviously not pellets or hay at the moment. I am a little worried I am over compensating for this and giving him in excess of the wrong type of food. He has been having his critical care food 3 times a day. I leave down grass, some greens (usually spinach, kale or rocket) and softening up his pellets and adding some banana to encourage him to eat them as otherwise he doesn't bother. I tried him on some fresh herbs and he loves the parsley but not so keen on the others. He has also been having some grapes.

I've not seen him drinking that much so I have been syringing him some water when I've got hold of him to do his meds. Is this because he is having the fluid from the fruit and veg and not eating drier foods like his hay and pellets? I'm worried that he is scared of using the drinking bottle incase it hurts him. I've left a bowl down with water too but from what I have seen, he hasn't used it.

I let him out for the first time last night for about 30 minutes and he was so excited. He was following the dog all the time. Oh, and he also sprayed all over me (and the dog) I guess I deserved that

Woohoo!!!! great stuff.. sounds like the attitude is returning.. All good....

You have done well.... its horrible when they're in pain...Good on ya!

Awwww, great news!!

You are right that the grapes and things will be making up for the lack of drinking. So long as he's weeing ok, he'll be ok. If he isn't, you are right to syringe some water.

:)

He has been peeing ok so not overly worried about the drinking just yet.
He has his check up tomorrow so I will mention it to the vet then.
He is still pooping, albeit they are smaller and darker. He's still eating them too.

He's in good spirits tonight, although he just grunted and lunged at me! Stroppy little poo-bag!
