Trees/branches

LazloTheBunny

Young Bun
My two beasts like to chew the wood on the outside of their shed and the carpet inside. Obviously this isn't good so I was looking into trees and branches that they can eat. We have willow, apple, pear and bramble in the garden which they can eat and love. But my question is does anyone know how often they can have these or is it ok if I just rotate between them for them. I gave them a whole apple tree (the type from a shop so not massive) and they've devoured it in a couple days so everything will need to be switched every few days. I'd rather them get too much of something from stuff they can eat then get sick from eating shed/carpet.

If you have a selection of different suitable trees, then I would rotate between them if you can. I must admit though our two bunnies get new branches to nibble every night and we don't make a point of rotating. Bunnies will prefer branches with leaves and so sometimes, for us, that will determine which species they get. Hazel is very popular at the moment.

My rabbits are really liking hazel this year too. Bet your rabbits were very happy to get a whole tree even if it did only last 2 days 🤣 You might want to add Ash to your forage too. I think rotating would be a good plan if you are feeding large quantities. Tree leaves & bark should be good for their digestion so as long as they are eating plenty of grass or hay you can be pretty generous

I just throw in whatever needs cutting, and they eat what they like. here there are a lot of willow species, and they are pretty picky (and spoiled).Hasel, yes but meh. Apple, and other fruit trees - YesYes Yes. Roses, wild or not - perfect. Hornbeam, Ash, Forsythia- all good.

In winter I feed fir, and the bare branches of all the trees mentioned above.
