• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Thank you so much for your post and I’m so sorry to hear of your poorly bun. How lucky she is to have you.
We went to a rabbit savvy vet who gave Willow an x ray which indicated an enlarged heart, so he has been prescribed meds twice a day going forward. It’s not the easiest, as Willow is a rather fiesty character but I’m trying different ways to administer it. He has an oral solution and a tablet so I mushed the tablet up with an apple baby food thing last night, which seemed to be the most successful administration yet. The vet did say he could source a liquid form of the tablet, so that may be the way to go. It just needs to be given as quickly and as smoothly as possible since this is now an everyday thing. I think the hardest part will be catching him as he’s extremely suspicious of me now. I’m the big baddie…
I’m hoping it’ll get easier, I have so much going on right now I’m finding life rather challenging. My Dad passed away ten weeks ago and my partner is in hospital awaiting surgery after suffering a heart attack on New Years Day. I’m not sure you could make the events of the last few months up.
Appreciate everyone’s input with this post, you’ve been so helpful.

Gosh what a lot of stressful and distressing things have been happening in your life  Firstly I'm so sorry about your Dad. I also hope that the operation for your partner happens soon and is successful.

I'm pleased that you have seen a rabvbit savvy vet with Willow and that they have established what the issue is. I hope that the medication will help. It is challenging to find ways to get a rabbit to take meds sometimes, but I hope that you can find a way that makes this easier for you.

I am sorry you lost your dad and your partner is awaiting surgery. It is good to read Willow's vet diagnosed the issue. Sending you, your partner, and Willow positive vibes.

Thank you for your support.

Regarding Willow and his heart meds, 1.25mg tablet of Cadisure and .6ml of Frusol twice a day, would it be detrimental if we gave 48hrs without the meds? My mum is currently staying with my sister up in Leeds, since Dad passed away, and I am in London. I was planning to go up and see them on the odd weekend, which is now obviously difficult to do if Willow needs this medication twice a day.
If any of you can let me know how you balance things with your bunnies who are on lifetime meds and their routine is be really interested.

We have a follow up appointment on Saturday, I’ve noticed Willow’s eyes less protruding when relaxing. Theybsoon pop out when he sees me though. I’m hoping the vet can see an improvement.

Thanks again for your comments, all x

I am sorry for your recent loss of your Dad

Personally I would arrange for a suitably qualified Pet Sitter to visit to administer the medication if you are away. Speak with a VN at your Vet Surgery, VNs often do Pet sitting as a second job, or know of someone suitable who does.
