Sweet Treat

One of my buns is obsessed with sweet human food - she's stolen chocolate and biscuits when I've not been fully paying attention (to stress these have been taken off her instantly and she hasnt eaten any), she also likes to lick where a sweet treat has been laying long after its gone. So, my question is can she have the tiniest crumb (and i mean tiny, just enough to taste) of a plain sweet biscuit such as a Rich Tea or Digestive once in a blue moon just so she can have a taste? Or is there a sweet bun specific treat she might go just as loopy for - she already loves banana but that isnt as much fun as Mum's human treats!

To answer your main question whether a tiny crumb of biscuit would hurt her, the answer is it certainly won't poison her nor upset her digestion.

My strong view though is that most bunnies have a naturally sweet tooth, BUT this is not something that I would want to encourage. Ever since I've had my bunnies they have been weaned off sweet things onto healthier treats, such as a favourite type of veg or forage. I can assure you that they both get tremendously excited to receive something like Cow Parsley. I feed no fruit and no commercial bunny treats, the fruit because it is high is sugars and the treats because they, in my view, are mostly just not healthy.

Sugar is bad for their teeth and also can sometimes upset their digestion. But the most important reason for them to avoid it, is obesity. Your bunny might not be obese, but those who eat a lot of fruit and commercial treats often are. And an obese bunny is unlikely to be a healthy bunny and will succomb to things like arthritis earlier in life.

I think it will be much easier to resist giving your bun a sweet treat. The begging will only get worse & you won't be able to enjoy your food because of the guilt & likely she'll get even more of a taste for it. A nice clear boundary will be good for you both I reckon. Its funny how some buns are obsessed with human food & some find it repugnant

Totally agree with Omi. It's not something I would want to encourage at all. Begging beasties just become annoying pests if allowed to, and they don't know what the side effects of eating what they are not built to process will be. Mine love dandelion leaves, and flowers when available.
