Supplements

Hi,
Kanga is thin, underweight, should I be offering supplements or just continuing with grain free pellets, hay x 3 varieties, readigrass and veggies with pea flakes as a treat
Thank you.

Was the vet concerned by his weight? If not, I don't think I would change his diet for now. You can't be sure how long he was a stray and that might have contributed to his low weight. Also if he is less than the length of a piggie, he is not going to be very heavy.

What I would do, is to continue with what you are feeding for a few weeks. During that time I would weigh him on the same scales regularly to see whether he is gaining any weight. If he's not then at that stage I would reconsider whether to increase his calories. But a lot depends on what your vet's opinion was.

Changes in diet may cause more upset, so if he's eating well at the moment, I would keep things as they are and weigh him weekly. He shouldn't be losing weight and hopefully will gain. Unlimited hay is always a good basis for gut and dental health.
