Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Strange red nose on my rabbit (Solved)

New Kit
Hello everyone. I have joined this forum as I am seeking advice for a bizarre thing that has happened to my rabbit suddenly.

My rabbit is in a huge cage outside that lays on grass. He is outside now in summer periods, for Hours everyday. And haver never had problems with him before. He is 5 years old.

Suddenly when I took him home today. He got a very red nose and has lost some fur on it. Picture is attached.

Does anyone know what it is. Some calls it fungal infection but I am not sure?

He seems to be happy and his does do not hurt when touching it

I hope someone have some knowledge on this.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards

That looks extremely sore! No advice here other than to see a vet unfortunately. It doesn't look fungal but like a specific injury but it's hard to tell from pictures.

Hello thanks for reply. Do you maybe know whether it is a physical injury, infection or allergy?

Looks like an injury but it’s impossible to say for certain from a photo. The tissue damage is similar to that seen when a scab gets knocked off a wound/ myxomatosis nodule before the underlying tissue has fully healed. Are you in the UK? If so has your Rabbit been vaccinated and if so when ?

From the photo it looks as though the left side of his face is swollen, it might just be a ‘trick of the camera’ though. Have you checked him all over for any other injuries/swelling ?

You need to take him to a Vet ASAP as that’s the only way to obtain a definitive diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Thanks for the reply, i will take him to the Vet today, she said on the phone when she saw the picture it was a good idea to take a look at him. Thanks for your suggestion.

Update. I was at the Vet today. The doctor said that it is an allergeic/toxic reaction from somr plant. So I have moved his cage in a place where there is only grass. He got some Adrenal-Derived Hormone as a cream to grease his nose the next 7 days. I hope it will be gone.

Thread is here solved.

Thanks for your suggestions.
