Run fastenings...?

This may be a silly question, but what is the best way to secure a run with a lift up hinged lid, other than a padlock?

You can use bolts without a padlock attached

That's what I thought, but OH said you could just lift the bolt off as it opens upwards...?

Yeah this. I'd love to know if there's a way. I once went out and bought bolts, came back and fixed it and it was only when I went to open the lid I realised the bolt served no purpose whatsoever

I'd have done the same if OH wasn't so practical
Hopefully someone has the answer!

I'm not sure I'm following :lol:

You fit them so they are lying flat on the top - imagine you've got them fitted on a hutch, now lay the hutch on it's back - the bolts still work.

If you can't fit them that way as there isn't room, you can put a 'loop' on the lid hanging down that the bolt goes through as it closes.

I've got these on our run

I've used one of these on the playhouse-run door, but wasn't sure if they would be as secure as normal bolts for the outside of the run?

How do you get on with them?

What about hasp and staple locks? I'd go for one either side of the run and, if you don't want to faff about with padlocks, you can use carabiner clips to hold them shut.

Ah ha, that's why I didn't use those, because of the faffing around... Carabiner clips are a good plan!

We used hook and eyes.

Tamsin they mean they are putting the locks on the side facing upwards, hence why you can still open them.

I used to use padlocks and got fed up with losing the keys, even though I had about 6 sets of them! :lol::lol: The clips are so much easier.

That way you don't need any keys to unlock it
