Rodney Girl’s Strange Head Position

New Kit
Hi. My Rodney Girl was acting odd recently, she was holding her head up as if sniffing the air which I’d never sees her do before. Her mouth was open and her bottom teeth were visible. As she’s recently recovered from a dog attack I didn’t know if it was to do with that or the hot weather. She started to leave her greens and try to hide away which set panic mode in motion. After scouring the internet and mainly finding head tilt articles, I found a photo of a rabbit on this site holding its head the same as Rodney Girl. The replies to that post indicated chest infection or heart problems so I took her to the vet and she’s got a chest infection. Thanks to this site and that post I think we’ve caught it in time I’d never seen her bottom teeth before and obviously know what to do if she shows her teeth again in that position.

It's very serious when a rabbit is breathing like that, so the vet was the right thing to do. I assume she's got some antibiotics and is improving?

Yes vet gave her an antibiotic injection and she’s on oral antibiotics which she doesn’t like taking so we’re trying to hide it in a bit of apple along with metacam for a recent dog attack injury. She’s very highly strung and gets very stressed when held, so hiding medication with her food is the less traumatic option. She’s slightly better today, thank you, but back at vets in the morning so the nurse can give her another antibiotic injection 🤞
