• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I have a 1 year old male rabbit who’s just started molting but since then he’s not been eating his kibble. We put some in his bowl yesterday morning and it continues to be in his bowl untouched so we are abit worried on what’s going on can someone help please. I’m not 100% if he’s been going to the toilet or not but if i was to take a guess i would say he hasn’t been.

Can you get him to the vets, a rabbit not eating is serious - even if you cant get an appointment today, they will be able to offer advise and maybe suggest another vets who could help.
What a scary time for you.

this is going to sound very embarrassing but i don’t get paid till Wednesday and i'm skint right now and this is now affecting him due to it and i feel terrible.

As Cuthbert& Dillon said this is an emergency situation. Your bunny needs to be examined by a vet and probably given pain relief plus medication to help his digestive system. There is no easy way to say this, but if he's not eaten since at least yesterday morning and there is probably no output, he will likely not be able to wait until Wednesday. He has possibly been ingesting his fur during his moult, which has caused the issue with his gut.

If I were you, I would ring your vet today. There will be an out of hours service, which will sadly be more expensive than an appointment during normal hours. I would explain your financial situation and ask for their help. Most vets will understand this and will offer a delayed payment. That will especially be the case if you explain what the situation is with your bunny.

Good luck, I hope he can get the medication he needs. Please don't wait to get help for him.

You can make an arrangement with the vets regarding payment, they should all offer this in an emergency.
