• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit neutered?

You need a reliable vet to tell if bunny is male or female first. A male older than 3 months should be obvious if he's neutered or not, but you might have do do a bit of rummaging under the fur :ROFLMAO:

He has bald and rather purple testicles - bother!
He is over 4 years old so very obvious but we had to root!
Some days I cant really get my head round what I need to do!

Thank you both.
The bald and rather purple bit made me laugh! At least the op for a boy bunny is simpler…

I am in a bit of a pickle with this, we very recently lost a gpig after castration and when I had my bridge rabbit Rupert castrated this op went wrong and he was a long time healing. I am really scared about putting kanga through this.
In addition I dont have an exotics vet in my town anymore.
We are also in the process of having to move house, we are moving in with Dad who's mobility is really poor - so Kanga will need an area to call home - dont know that he can free roam around Dad as Kanga wants to be next to your feet and I am worried about dad stepping on him or falling. This is an unexpected expense to house Kanga as I want something for year round that I can walk in and out of and has access to a bit of garden.

If Kanga was inside with us I am tempted to keep him single but I cant do that if he is going outside.

I wish he didnt have testicals.

I'm sorry you've been through so much with castrations recently. Guinea pigs are a much more complicated operation than rabbits due to their anatomy, and they are more difficult to manage under anaesthesia.

There's no rush to get Kanga done, unless he's likely to start spraying in a new set up when you do move. I agree that having him running free around your dad isn't going to be safe for either of them, plus he may chew wires, etc.

Are there any puppy panels, baby gates or large dog crates available on a local online marketplace? You don't need to get new ones. I've even used the big square child safe fire guards before to make up parts of runs.

Thank you Shimmer, he and the pigs are in C & C grids so I can use these to create safe spaces initially.
I know the photo does not show it but the run is 3 wide 5 long and he has access to most of downstairs - he seems to like "helping" me pack!
