Rabbit glucose settings for AlphaTrak3

New Kit
Hi all,

We run a self funded rabbit sanctuary over at https://hoppyhope.org and have a couple of bunnies who have diabetes - currently being controlled via diet rather than Metformin, and we obviously have a need to keep a track of their glucose levels. Gaining a reliable result is also useful in determining levels of stress related to illness etc. We previously had a type 1 (insulin) bunny whom we kept in check for a number of years, but sadly lost him some time ago.

Previously, we've been using the AlphaTrak2 device, and because of the ever-decreasing availability of testing strips, we've needed to purchase the "version 3" model. The one we've purchased is for cats, dogs, and horses, but I can't find anything online in relation to settings for bunnies. Previously, we used Cat as the species, and the value of "36" for the code, although the codes for the 3 unit seem to have completely changed.

I am in the process of checking with our specialist vet to see if he has any information, although I'm positive he's still using the 2 unit.

Anyone on here have any pointers?

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

I had a diabetic dog and used an Alphatrak 2 for test his levels, is the Alphatrak 3 any different in that the code varies on the strips? Ie the code on the tub of test strips may vary each time for cat and dog, I used to check the code on each new tub of testing strips and put the dog one into the monitor
Never thought of using it for a rabbit for some reason!

Thanks for the response. Seems the AlphaTrak3 is very different. The 2 version used just two digits (for example, 36) whereas the code on the testing strips for the 3 version is alphanumeric with 4 characters. Not so worried about this of course, but wanted to know if I could still use the valued assigned for cats with rabbits as I did with the AlphaTrak2.

Oh I see, yeah that sounds unusual! Is it worth contacting the manufacturers and asking about which code to use for rabbits?
