I means you'd get a pop up notification (like when you get an email I'd assume) on your tablet or phone. So it would pop up saying Grace has replied to thread blah blah, so you get told when people respond to you etc rather than having to come on and check

God alive that would be soooo annoying! I often wondered what it meant too.

It may be useful if you wanted to know right away if someone replied to an urgent question you had. Otherwise I agree it would be annoying.
