• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Please Help my Rabbit has white and bulging eye

My Rabbit is almost 9 years old, and her left eye has suddenly turned white, and also the head area has bulged just above the eye. She is sitting quietly in one place, and her nose is making a wheezing sound. I'm from India, and there is no rabbit specialist vet near me, and the common vet will be available in 12-13 hours. Any info or help is appreciated.IMG_20250505_232114.jpgIMG_20250505_232106.jpgIMG_20250505_232057.jpgIMG_20250505_232042.jpg

@Shimmer, do you know what might've caused this? Head trauma or sickness? (Asking for myself, not for OP)
It's not my place to say - I'm not a vet and there's no background info given, but the photos (showing discharge from the nose) and wheeziness suggests there's a respiratory infection which needs urgent vet attention, plus whatever treatment is needed for the eye.

Thanks, I was wondering what could've caused such a horrible symptom, and if it was a common occurrence in rabbits.

I hope you can get to the vet as soon as possible. It looks painful so keep her as comfortable as possible. Perhaps you can get an online consult with a vet to obtain advice on pain management while you wait for your vet to open.
