Pearl Gray

Is she peeing okay? Could be uti

Altho..have you checked her scent glands.....?🤢 even just typing that makes me feel sick 😂😂

If it's her pee that smells that way, I'd be thinking a UTI. I've had cats and dogs with fishy smelling pee when they have a UTI. Any kind of infection could potentially be serious so I'd see if they can get you in sooner unfortunately 😕

I haven't experienced this before. Is it her or her wee that smells?
I think it is her, she is not very happy in the company of humans - making the vets appointment more important to rule out illness. I have picked her up once but she was dreadfully unhappy, she is busy trying to dig her way out through the bottom of her cage. She is drinking, eating and producing good poops, but I do think it is her that smells. The carrier that she was in for the 2.5 hour journey home has soiled newspaper in, this is not fishy.

Bless her, i would take her sooner if poss. Fishy smells arent normal so better sorted sooner than later. I hope she gets on ok

Oh crikey! Poor girlie

Were there other bunnies in the house where she was living? If not, I think that all of this 'oddness' with her could be put down to a generalised upset, which of course isn't a medical term :ROFLMAO: I have been wondering whether the fishy smell could be hormonal. Could she perhaps have smelt Kanga on you? Also not to underestimate the change in her environment over the past few days. I'm not saying that this could have been done any differently, but her life has changed quite a bit very suddenly.

I really don't know whether this is the correct thing to do, but I do think I would want to just keep her very calm for a few days.

She's adorable ❤️ And she changes colours! I'm so glad she's going to have a good life with you and Kanga now. I think you've done a lovely thing by giving her a home.

I would call the vets for advice about the fishy smell, asking if it's something that needs to be looked at before Friday or if she can have a few days to settle first, especially with her having built a nest. They'll be able to tell you what's best, I would expect. I'd make sure they actually ask a (bunny-savvy) vet, though, if the person on the phone doesn't know much about bunnies.

Thank you, I spoke to the vets who said leave her till Friday, however if she stops eating, drinking, pooping, looks miserable etc etc bring her in.
So tonght she has just had her supper - still struggling with veg but she ate a peice of broc, some parsley, a handful of fresh grass and is eating her pellets, she seems to prefer a bowl and she came over when she knew it was pellet time.
I have given her an eclosed cardboard box with a small hole cut in, a blanket and toys, she seems to like throwing her wicker balls about., The box has been sat on (fur on the top) and the blanket has been sat under - so she is moving about much more happily this evening.
We have been out since lunch so she has had time alone and seems to smell less - I expected it to be stronger coming in from outside.

Kanga is downstairs - in the lounge with the pigs, I have put a baby gate on so he can not come upstairs. Pearl Grey is in the back bedroom and again a babygate has been put over the door. I am sure they can smell each other.

The nest as close as I want to go, I dont want to stress her. She is not sitting anywhere near it though.

So Pearl Grey has been to the vets, she is 1.8kgs in weight with a low body score of 2 si not ideal, her back teeth need watching as they are not quite lined up but are clean. Her ears and eyes are good and her skin is good. She is in full moult. No idea if she is pregnant.
She was such a good girl and was vaccinated and had her nails trimmed.
The smell was from just above her tail, I was shown how to clean this and the manky fur was taken from round it. The gland is now clean and doesnt smell - phew!

She is so very terrified of everything but I was so proud that she did so well.

IF and only IF with her nesting they can spay her she is booked in at Urmston with Kanga for the 4th March, but they might not iwth her nesting.

This is good progress :D I think her vet check up sounds reasonably positive. You can hopefully manage the back teeth issue with her now newly improved diet. I think she will also slowly put on weight. It is better for her that she does this slowly, which is now possible for her. Great that eyes, ears and skin are healthy. Super too that the smell has been identified and removed. What a lucky little girlie she is ❤️

Has she continued with the nesting behaviour? I still reckon it's likely been caused by her hormones after realising that there was an entire male bunny close by.

Thank you Omi, the vet said that maybe she had been used as a breeding bunny - but there was no way to tell. She defo hasnt been a pet. Urmston said spaying her will help if she is feeling homonally off.

I am glad it was her scent glands causing the fishy odour. i was really worried just cos my one experience of fish smell in a bun was when Noodle had a big dental abscess. Could they estimate her age?

About a year which was based on an examination of her nails. But I was told 2 .5 years at Chesterfield. Not sure what to think, I will ask again in Urmston.

Aw, brave little Pearl Grey. Glad to see the smell was only the glands. I hope she isn't pregnant, though...that would be a situation, wouldn't it? Two intact bunnies and a litter of kits!

After seeing a picture of her, I can now see why she keeps changing colors between brown and gray!

Thank you,
I have just cleaned them out so they are nice for coming home tomorrow. Pearl Grey is upset as I have taken her nest. I checked every last peice as I was worried I might miss a baby but there were none. She hasnt gone in that bit since, but for the first time she came to me for a stroke. No lunging but head down for a head rub. I hope all is well tomorrow.
Kanga for the first time ever took himself into the gpig house - he is in bother for destroying the blinds on the window so maybe he went to tell them what a bad bunny mum I am for leaving blinds where he could fall over them.
I will let you know as soon as we are home. The plan is to set off at 7.30 to arrive for 9am, We are then going to stay around Urmston for the day, then we are on hand to bring them home.
I have put there carriers in with them so they can go in an out over night.
I have packed their lunch boxes, one each with pellets and one with sliced carrot, kale and some rocket.
Not sure what else I can do.
Thank you again.
