Outside Runs

Ralph

Young Bun
Hi, I had a small run when I first got Ralph that really was too small but he did spend a lot of time inside so he did get excercise. I recently upgraded to a run from Jolleys which has a lid and is covered one side which I thought waas good as he would have shade in the summer and so on.

However......its a bit rubbish......its falling to bits and the wood down the sides and on the lid has split and I have splinters all over me, plus the wire is coming off and poking out! I am actually really cross about this, it was reduced but I was told that was due to the wood being slightly scuffed. Its so badly made though the hinges are coming apart and it feels like it will come apart at any time......

I was looking at some in PAH today but ones I liked were very expensive and actually not that big, I do want a large one as he loves being out and I like him to have enough room for his toys and enough room to explore and hop. I did see one which was like a puppy pen with panels and a netting over the top. Has anyone got these and what does anyone think?:)

My concern with these is that predators can get in very easily, whilst the buns can jump out.

I guess it depends on your garden my bunnies free range all day when im in so these are only used when Ive got my 4 year olds friends over to play so bunnies dont get pestered.

Ive not used them since getting my boy bun neutured but im guessing he would still get over them. Ive never used them with the netting though.

Thanks for the replies. Ideally I need one that I can climb in and out of as he is a little sod when it comes to catching him in the evening, I need a lid as we have loads of kites around here and they often hover above, I only thought they ate dead animals but you never know!;)

Hi my Husband made some very large runs with door's in them so we didn't have to climb over and they are great but are open topped so we usually keep an eye on them when they are being used. He is working on putting top's on them and one day hoping to build and sell. :)

They are fab!!! :D I reckon your hubby could make a mint with them! ;)

Out of interest would your hubby consider making them as one off's with a top on them & if so what would they cost? I'm asking as a friend is trying to make sure she's got a suitable pen for 3 bunnies she's adopting that would just be used for exercise time, when she's at home :)

You might be best contacting someone who makes aviaries as a large bunny run is very similar to an aviary on it's side. It would probably cost around £100.

He would have to work out how much it would cost, and I will get back to you. :)

I have the same problem, we have kites flying very low over the house and put bricks on top of the run lid just in case. I'm also pretty saw kites only eat dead animals but like you decided that open runs were a no no.

Hi btw

I would definetly buy one as that is better then the ones you get it shops and online.

very nice

Yeh I thought this when I saw them. A review of them said that the outside diameter wasnt the gauge. And that the 8mm was wearable as 6mm.
Its confused me

In the for sale section in general chat there is a forum member run-rabbit-runs. I have just bought three 7ftx5ft collapsible runs from them and I am over the moon with them.

You could buy more than one 'normal' run and attach them together. Most of the flatpack ones would be easy to do - you'd just remove the end or side panel of each run and screw or bolt the two together. I've done this for my nethies to create a much bigger run. I also bought a couple of hinges and instead of fixing all the top with screws, I've attached each end with hinges and locks so that I can get in the top as well.

I pinched Tuckerbunnies run idea (cheers:wave: )and got the OH's dad who is a carpenter to make mine.It works out cheaper and you can design it yourself. I have a solid wood bit that acts as a shelter from sun or wind.
I found it really hard to find a suitable large size run in shops or tinternet

This is 6x6x3
