Our baby girl is actually a boy!

We bought a male and female rabbit. Brought them home in March. Named them Guinness and Stella. Guinness was neutered at 4 months, Stella has just gone for her spayed when they have found she is actually a boy. We are struggling to come to terms with it.
She is called Stella- what do you think, shall we change his name to a more male name? We love the names together, but don't want everyone to assume he is a girl. Also, how do we go about re bonding them? They have been separated since he was neutered as obviously we assumed she was a girl so have been waiting for her spay. They are 6 months old. TIA

They should re-bond OK. Give it a few weeks for Stella to recover from the op' and for hormone levels to settle down.

I have a boy called Betty. He was called that when I got him at maybe 2 years old. He's very pretty, very fluffy (so not obvious anyway, and he was neutered at some point before he was picked up in a local park), and no-one thought to check (including me). The only issue was looking at getting 'her' spayed, which I luckily didn't go through with. I can't bring myself to call him anything else now - I did try calling him Bertie, but it wouldn't stick. I find it quite amusing at the vet, especially with new receptionists.

So if you like the name, keep it. It won't bother him. Or anyone else.

Same thing happened to me. Our little "girl" was called Queenie, 3 years old and no longer wanted by my grandchildren. We took "her" to the vet for vaccs and she said " Do you know it's a boy?" and showed me the evidence! She asked if I wanted to change the name and the only thing I could think of was Kingy! Daft name I thought so I said Prince. He's been Prince ever since, he doesn't care at all.

OH still laughs that I came out of the surgery and announced "Congratulations, we've got a boy"

Years ago I had this happen twice. Now I ask vet to confirm gender when they get their first checkup. One was named Fancy and I changed his name, the other was named Bonita and he kept his name.

I have a girl called Jasper - it doesnt bother her and I love the name. Stella is a beautiful name.
