Is it okay I feed my rabbit only bok choy and carrots?
We live in the city and there's no hay and we can't find anything else :(

The bits of the plants that we don't eat are often OK for rabbits, eg the green leafy tops of carrot and ordinary radish. You may be able to get these from your local store / market if you ask, as they are the bits that are usually thrown away. Cabbage is OK and its associated family, eg broccoli, kale, spring greens, chard in limited quantities. Avoid anything from the onion family and introduce new food types gradually to avoid an upset digestive system.

There are lists somewhere on this site for safe foods.

Can you get hold of grass or alfalfa pellets? They would provide some fibre to help keep the teeth worn down and would be good for digestion. I'm guessing that you are not in the UK.

Do you have anywhere that you could grow your own grass or other greens eg in a large pot / tub or two?

Rabbits really need hay in order to digest their food and keep their teeth from getting too long. Is there a pet store in your area that stocks any small bags of it? You could also order some online if there isn't any pet stores near you

Rabbits must have hay (or grass) as the majority of their diet, like 90% so you must provide this for them. If I run out of hay, even for a day I can instantly tell the difference in my buns, especially by the poo they produce!!! If nowhere near you does good enough hay then you can easily buy it online. You can always buy hay in big supermarkets but I always buy mine online anyway as it seems to be better quality. Try hay4pets, super quick delivery last time I ordered from them and you can buy in bulk. You must feed your rabbits hay or grass!!

Where about are you - we might have members from that area that can offer some tips on where to find it.

Fresh grass or hay is really important for rabbits teeth/digestion.

Do you have access to rabbit pellet food? Or is it just human foods? Knowing will help us advise you the best options.

Carrot tops (the green leaves) would be better than lots of carrots themselves. There are lots of other human vegetables that are good too. Also a lot of the tough bits that get through away eg carrot tops, broccoli stalk, cauliflower leaves. Markets are a good place to go as they often throw away spare parts and will give them to you for free/cheap. Again where you up will help us know what potential vegetables are available.

You can buy hay and pellets online

I lived in the city and would have to travel to places like pets at home or pet shops on the outskirts but you do what you have to do

I'm afraid what you are feeding the buns is not good for them on its own you are only supposed to give them a little fruit and veg and they live on hay with pellets

Okay so I went to the wet market and here's what's available:

Mustard greens
String beans
Kangkong (water spinach)
Camote leaves
Cabbage
Cauliflower
Broccoli
Carrots
Chinese cabbage
Radish
Eggplant
Squash
Okra
Bell pepper (red)
Malunggay ( moringa oleifera)

So which is safe for our rabbit?

The following are definately safe:

Cabbage
Cauliflower
Broccoli
Carrots
Bell pepper (red)
Mustard greens
Radish (leaves)
Chinese cabbage
Kangkong (water spinach)
Camote leaves
Squash
Okra
Malunggay ( moringa oleifera) (We don't have this here so I've no experience of feeding it, but googling suggests it's fine for rabbits.

Not safe:
Eggplant
String beans

This should provide a good range of vitamins and minerals, but ideally you still want to include some grass based fibre for wearing teeth down. If there anywhere you could cut grass from? Do you have cattle or horses near by - what do they eat? If you've a garden area, you could sow grass seed and use that as feed.
