New shed.

Wise Old Thumper
When I moved here in 2023 there was a lovely big shed in the garden. It has been great for the rabbits and for the guinea pigs buuuut it is letting water in at the bottom, the window panes are rotten and the floor is kind of soft and spongey!

I am planning to get a new shed. I want a really good quality insulated one around 10 x 8 or 8 by 8.

I would be grateful for any links to decent shed companies that anyone could recommend. Bespoke rabbit sheds would be good too.

I have been browsing online and it is hard to know which companies are good quality/value.

I'll be following this as I would like a new shed too. My big shed (12 x 8) is ok for now but my 7 x 5 shed which is home to 2 Bunnies really needs replacing. It's the logistics I'm stuck over ie who is going to remove the old shed and who will erect the new one. There seems to be a shortage of handymen round here.

Not quite a shed but we have just purchased a run from KCT Direct. Reasonably prices, fast delivery and I hope just what is needed. Good luck with your search. They do seem to do housing too but I can not vouch for that.

We recently bought a plastic 4in-5in (I think?) shed for our two. We did have a much larger one for our chickens when we had them (a walk in), attached to a run. It worked really well, and was surprisingly durable. Some water did come in through the doors when it rained, but with was an installation error (we built it wrong 😅). It was also easy to clean. We did live in a warmer climate, though, so I'm not sure how it would do cold-wise.

I have found a local company (Bristol) that do specific animal sheds.

Has anybody heard of or had dealing with this company. He is asking for half the money in advance via bank transfer. Is that normal?

We got the one from B+Q it was easy to put up, the thing feels firm but the "windows" were shockingly thin - I have now got polycarbarbon peices instead. The one you posted seems much more robust.

The issue is that I have never heard of this person and don't know him so don't want to send him half the money in case the shed never gets delivered.

I could be over thinking it but feel wary.

Can you look at reviews - elsewhere than facebook, or look on Companies House if he is more than a one man band. Also me thinks if you transfer the money into his account and tick the box that says this is a business transaction / paying for a service - does that not cover you if something goes array?

I would also feel wary, particularly as he's asked for bank transfer, which is pretty much like cash. You'd be covered more if you paid by credit card. I can't find a website so it seems he only advertises on FB.

On the other hand, I can understand why he asks for this. Although you would think he would source his materials from somewhere, where he has an account.

It's difficult to know what to do. I think if it were me, I would want some reassurance that he would actually turn up, plus that he would do a good job. Although you would imagine that if it is a scam and he doesn't turn up, then there would be some sort of feedback on FB from others.

Thanks both. I am hesitant. He does have 11 reviews on his facebook page all glowing.

I wish I knew someone who knew him!

Can you ask to see any of his installations? Either via him or direct request to people who reviewed him.
Will he send you a proper written quote and contract?

Has anyone got any experience of Shropshire pet housing?

They are in Telford but can deliver all over the UK.

Not sure why I am sharing but perhaps it might be useful. I bought my shed from B+Q - would only slightly recommend. I did buy the attached run from KCT Direct. It was a couple of hundred quid and I am pleased with the quality. The gpig one is built and I managed to do it fairly easily.
My point is that a pal then pointed to temu - I have not looked at them and my KCT run is less than one hundred and they have some really big sheds - everything about my run was the same, same delivery time, same UK manufacturer etc. I had always thought that website was abroad.

Rivals to Amazon? Their warehouses are huge. We managed to get a local one blocked in the end, thankfully. You really can't imagine just how big they are and the amount of traffic they generate. It would have been an HGV about every 1.5 minutes on not quite single track village roads, and the view across the fields would just have been a steel wall as far as you could see, including upwards.

Geeze 🫠

I have decided to go to a reasonable local garden centre that sells sheds and green houses. Going to have a look at them in real life and ask if they can modify them for me (adding windows and insulation).

The temu thing is very yikesy.
