i got a new 8 weeks bunny i am feeding him timothy hay right now so shall i mix it with alfalfa and what is the best type of pellets i shall get him the breeder gave me excel junior with mint do you recommend any other?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Alfalfa hay has a higher calorific content than timothy. I would continue just with the timothy, as you want a steady rather than rapid weight gain. There are several types of pellets and Excel is recognised as a good make. As the breeder has probably told you, it's best to continue with the same type of pellet that the bunny has been eating so far. If you wanted to try a different make, then this must be done gradually over time, so that it doesn't upset his digestive system. Here is a link to a chart, which compares the nutritional qualities of the different pellets https://www.therabbithouse.com/diet/rabbit-food-comparison.asp

Any further questions, then please just ask.

I agree with Graciee and that, if your bunny is used to Excel, then I would say it's fine to continue. But I wouldn't say that Excel was better than Science Selective and nor would I say that Science Selective is better than Excel. Both are very good rabbit pellet foods.

It really comes down to what your bunny likes and what his digestion is happy with over time.

My two have excel with mint (they are 8 and 5 years old) and they seem very happy with it.

The pellets you have are fine. Most of the diet should be hay / grass anyway. Changing any other elements of the diet should be done gradually over several days.

As an aside - why do people always want to change the diet of a new pet? It causes so many issues. Unless it’s a really inappropriate diet, it’s best to stick with what they are used to eating and give them a few weeks to settle in - everything else in their life has changed, so minimise changes to anything else you can to reduce the stress on everyone.
