• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My bunny has an indolent eye ulcer and her tear ducts need flushing..

My bunny has an indolent eye ulcer which i've been treating for 7 weeks with chloramphenicol eye drops and remend eye gel. She has also had the ulcer debrided with a cotton tip twice but unfortunately this also hasn't worked. When I went to the vets last week they said the ulcer is looking the best it ever has and although it still hasn't fully healed it looks as though it is getting better. Therefore the vet said to wait another 10 days to see if it eventually fully heals before considering a diamond burr debridement. I was happy to do this therefore we're currently hoping and praying it does fully heal.

Now this is where it gets a bit complicated...
I originally took my bunny to the vet 7 weeks ago as her eyes were running and the vet suggested her tear ducts need flushing but wanted to deal with the eye ulcer first before flushing them. Now when we went to the vets last week the vet said she will flush the tear ducts next time we go whether the eye ulcer has healed fully or not. Im unsure whether this is the best thing to do if the ulcer hasn't fully healed? Wouldn't this make the ulcer prone to infection if it hasn't fully healed? Looking for some advice as dont want to cause further problems that we already have, I would rather wait for the ulcer to heal properly before having them flushed if it is going to cause more problems.

Any advice would be most helpful :)
