• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

How are your two poorly ones?
Apparently Willoughby has passed some tiny poops which is good, still not eating on his own just having the cc. Gunna give him the day on all the meds if not back to vet tomorrow I think.

Evelyn is still unwell still, we got discharged last night, they said we could stay another night but said if we wanted to try going home we could. Also said we could call ward for advice and also obviously come straight back if any problems. Told us we could use paracetamol as she's on the strong antibiotics but if fever doesn't go in 48 hours to come back for iv antibiotics. So we went home then she spiked the highest fever we've ever seen since original sepsis.. Whilst on paracetamol. Which is interesting after they said its unlikely she'll ever be able to spike a fever. Evelyn doesn't do anything by halves 🫠 I called the ward as they said to and the paediatrician wouldn't give advice as he hasn't seen her 😑 and basically said we have to decide whether to come back in or not.. Which isn't helpful.. It's not a straight forward thing to manage this. Anyway we gave more paracetamol a bit early and the fever did respond so we decided to stay home and go back if anything changed. She's got a really bad cough today, so we'll see, still has fever but it does respond to paracetamol.. Basically if any one thing happens we'll go back I think. I find this all so annoying though, her best friend came in to school with a cold last Wednesday. She caught it ofc then we end up in hospital 😩 it's just a damn cold 😩😩 stupid spleen!

I hope they both continue to improve. You've had to make lots of difficult decisions with Evelyn, but your choices seem to have been the corretct ones.

Sending more vibes for you and Evelyn. That must be difficult, trying to keep everything so clean, especially with one so young. Is there any hope of spleen regeneration?

I'm glad Willoughby passed something, that's at least a start. I hope he starts eating on his own today.

Best of luck with Willoughby today.

Is it a good sign that Evelyn is able to get a fever now? Maybe her system is recovering it's immune response now? I know nowt about these things, so I don't know why I'm saying that!
