New Kit
Hi, my name is Paul, and my male lop(lil man) and i, just lost his female Mini Rex mate(Holly).
I just finally had him castrated as his pestering of her was getting too much. (He almost died in the first attempt at castration, so we had decided at least him being intact meant they wouldn't get lazy & fat).
Anyway, she acted very strange during a week long heatwave, which disguised an internal blockage, and internal bleed, which resulted in an emergency vet visit, and having to 'let her go'.
Now I'm left with my male, who while eating extremely well, is very inactive, unoccupied and disinterested in leaving his cage. I can get him out with treats, but now his mate is gone, I need some good boredom breakers.
I am going to move their cage nearer the window, and rearrange the 'run' under the cage, making it about 2 metres by 2 metres, and to enable digging in it. (Perspex sides). I could do with suggestions on keeping him occupied when I'm not with him. (I have chronic illnesses that make me sleep 12+ hrs a day). I've bought things like 'woodland mix', dandelion roots and a few other 'mixes', but want something more like the ratan/wicker balls, and cardboard tp tubes. I'm going to include a ball pit accessed through a big 2metre cardboard tube(a sterile cardboard concrete former), but want as many boredom breaking options as possible. I gather sandpits aren't safe, so I plan on placing cooling water bottles in the ball pit to cool him in hot weather. I've got 4 seagrass growing kits too, to give him a little grass, as I have no garden. This was all planned before I lost my female, but is more urgent now.
