• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Making weird sounds when drinking

My bunny, who’s almost 8 years old, has been having some problems with his arthritis today and he seems like he might be in pain. I heard that chamomile can help relieve pain, so I mixed some with water and mashed up pellets to give to him. When I let him drink it, he made some weird noises that sounded like gulping/stomach noises that I haven’t really heard him make before. Upon further inspection, he’s doing this with his water but a lot quieter and not on every sip. Was he just drinking too fast before because he was excited about the pellets, or is this something I should be concerned about?

Sorry to hear that you have concerns about your bunny, only a vet can say if there's a problem. If he has arthritis, is he on medication for this ? I would also mention this to the vet.

I've had some very noisy bunny drinkers before ...both were lops with impaired hearing. I agree its worth discussing with your vet, just because its (presumably) a new 'symptom'
