• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lump under skin - middle upper tummy

His pee has a pretty strong smell right now, i guess it smells like ammonia or like how a hospital smells. I'm hoping it's just from the GA and the meloxicam he is having twice a day, he's got a little bit on his inner ankles so I'm gonna clean him up today as it honestly stinks

He is eating fine and pooping fine. I took the vest off for 10 so he could clean himself better and of course he went to nip at the wound so it's back on.

We are on dose 4/10 of the meloxicam this AM

His poops are a little on the wetter and deformed/ smaller side but he has mostly been eating greens compared to hay but I was very lenient the first 24 hours as I didn't want us to go into stasis so I gave him whatever he was eating. I think he's made some ceetrope it sounds like he's munching on something right now anyways.

I've left him with his litter tray and a few wood pellets as he's peeing there and refuses to go on the puppy pads still. He seems fine jumping in and out. I did wanna take it away but he will not pee anywhere else so I've had to leave it.
I've not really looked at his testicles, they look like they've got some dried blood on them but I've just left them alone. If they still look like it later I'll gently clean with a cotton swab and the cooled boiled water after his tummy clean.

I did have to clean him up as he had a very wet poop yesterday (probably critical care and veggie overload) and I just cleaned any dried pee as he isn't really bending to clean himself, maybe because of where the wound is and it might have initially hurt

Thank you for checking in

Just wondering about the wound cleaning - I've never cleaned a wound after a routine op as it can be an infection risk in itself and can interfere with the healing process. Once any blood stains have gone, I reckon it's better to just leave it well alone but inspect daily (unless the wound is already infected and it needs cleaning out as part of the treatment, like an abscess does). Did the vet advise you to clean it daily? I know the advice varies on this.

He should be more comfortable in a couple of days as the skin will have started to heal over by then. Do the stitches need removing later, or are they dissolving ones?

Strong smelling wee indicates that he may not be drinking enough, so I would encourage him more if you can, or syringe feed him water if he will take it. He might like eg a splash of pure apple juice or peppermint tea in his drinking water (in a different bowl to plain water, in case he won't drink it).

Oh I didn't know that, they said to clean it initially but he's licked at it today so I'll do one more pat clean and dry and then leave him with it unless it looks bad. I'll leave it be unless it looks sore. She did dissolving stitches she did internal and external dissolve and then glue on his bits which look OK it looks a bit dried bloody but I don't know how glue wounds look, he can't really get to it so I've wiped it a tiny bit and left it alone.

Which is best peppermint tea and apple juice?

I can get him these to come tomorrow

He doesn't really like the syringe

Both look ok to me. A litre of apple juice is going to last forever - you only need a splash in a bowl of water. It can be frozen (ice cube tray, then bag the cubes & label it) if you don't drink it.
Are there any local shops you can nip out to?

I am on a farm in the middle of nowhere and don't drove so it'll take a while to get to them :(

Unfortunately we have had a lump come up the opposite side
I have asked for the previous lump to be sent for biopsy.
I'm not going to rush him for surgery, I will just keep an eye and await biopsy results
He has had a few small bumps come up recently, from on top of his ribcage, to his thighs and now a larger one under his ribcage right side.

I'm very sorry your bunny has additional lumps. I can understand your concern. I hope that the histology of the initial lump doesn't show anything that can't easily be treated.

I'm not sure if this is normal or not at 5.. I'm hoping the other lump was just fatty tissue and nothing bad... I know Molly wasn't too concerned to rush a biopsy just when I was ready.
I'm going to keep an eye on him and see where we are at while we await the results. If they grow larger and harder we will go straight in but he had some smaller on his legs before that vanished after a week, I think he nipped himself when in his medical pet shirt so I'm praying I just caught him while grooming as he doesn't sit still
