Lilac losing weight

My little old lady has been at the vets a bit over the last few weeks with an eye issue and a progression of sore hocks. We've got the hock and eye situation under control but her weight is going down. She's going in for a blood test hopefully later this week/early next week to see what the issue might be as her teeth are good and her appetite is VERY good, which actually makes me more worried as she's eating well but still losing weight. She is nearly 11 and has arthritis and some ear issues that I've mentioned elsewhere, her mobility is generally quite good although she's getting wobbly. Not sure if the weight loss is just a natural progression of her health and age issues or something more sinister. I've been mentally preparing for "the end" as and when it comes but it still sucks to think about.

Oh bless her, I hope the tests go well, and the weight loss is "just" an age thing. Sending lots of vibes for your girl, 11 is great, you keep going lovely Lilac xx

It is a worry I agree, but it's sensible to have blood tests done. If she's got arthritis and in view of her age there might a a degree of muscle wastage, which might account for it.

Has she lost a large amount of weight? Is it continuing?

Thanks both, she usually weighs between 1.5-1.6kg, last week when I took her in she was closer to 1.4kg and this week it's 1.3kg so not ideal at all. In my head I think it's too much to have lost in a week just through muscle wastage but she is getting wobblier, mainly when she's cleaning herself or turning, when she runs she's absolutely fine. Which leads me to think it could be more sinister potentially.

Lots of well wishes for your old girl. Boo went very much the same way in her old age, skinny & wonky, she was impossible to put weight on for the last year or so of her life. I will have everything crossed her bloods come back ok

Got an appointment confirmed to take bloods tomorrow morning, so fingers crossed it won't be too long until we know more. Will update this thread once I have the results.

I'm sorry Lilac's losing weight, I hope everything turns out alright for you
Thank you, just trying to be realistic given her age and existing health conditions, just want her to be happy and have as good a quality of life as possible for however long she has.

Sending lots of positive thoughts to you and Lilac. It’s good you’ve managed to get on top of sore hocks though! They are always a ******!

Good luck please keep us updated!

They really are a pain! Plus with her arthritis she sits a bit funny so puts more pressure on her back feet bless her. Thankfully they actually don't seem to bother her, she never tries to lick or chew at them, we were using flamazine but they still got a bit worse, so now we're using isaderm which isn't good for long-term so we'll have to see how she goes once I stop using it.

It’s understandable to feel scared and sad about this. I really hope it turns out to be something manageable.

oh, good. It's always nice to have some of that on hand!
It's definitely on the essentials list for sure. Still waiting for the results unfortunately, it's been 10 days now. I did chase the vet last week but they just said they will call when the results are in. Hopefully will hear before Christmas. She's still well in herself so no concerns there, but I'd like to know if something else is going on.

I'm sorry you still haven't heard. That's a really long time to wait for blood test results in my view.
