• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lilac losing weight u/d 10.02.26

I am sorry to hear Lilac is still not feeling herself. I know there are a few science selective “treats”out there to help with urinary tract. Do you feed forage is there something in those that may help?

I was told once upon a time (Could be out dated information so do check with vets) that a water filter could help with sludge/calcium build up in bunnies too.

As I say it was something years ago, so do check, but I hope bunny is feeling better soon.
I just bought some of them and she loves them, been cutting down her nuggets and replacing with those. We do have a water filter that I use for her. She hasn't had any recurrence of symptoms since stopping the antibiotics so fingers crossed she's okay. She's still wobbly at times but that won't change given her age!

Unfortunately my little lady has been having a relapse of some of her neurological symptoms. She's increasingly suffering with nystagmus in the past week and having episodes alongside this where she gets "stuck" turning to her right. She's also generally favouring leaning to her right ever so slightly when she's resting. This has been affecting her appetite to an extent (although luckily she hasn't stopped eating) and her toileting. She is booked in at the vets tomorrow afternoon. I think I will have to have an honest conversation with the vet about what is in her best interests. In the meantime I'm sleeping in the living room with her to make sure that I can check on her regularly.

At times she is absolutely fine and running about begging for treats, so it's very conflicting to know what to do. She had a really good couple of weeks but we do appear to be going in circles unfortunately (pardon the pun given her symptoms!).

Aww lil old lady Lilac ❤️ Its really nice to hear she had a run of a few weeks where she was doing well. I'm sorry her worrying vestibular symptoms have now returned. How is her spirit? I think its not so much what they go through as how they cope. I find these situations so hard, I hope the vet appt helps you find clarity in deciding what to do next.

Thanks both, she seemed in better spirits last night but unfortunately when I woke up this morning she had lost the use of her back legs. She wasn't struggling and seemed very quiet, so we made the decision to let her go at the vets. She did improve on the journey and was able to stand but I think she was telling us she had had enough, it wouldn't have been fair to put her through more treatment.

I'm so very sorry that you have had to let Lilac go, but it sounds as though she let you know bless her. Sweet dreams beautiful girl xx and big hugs for you Orenoko x

Thank you. She's going to leave a big hole in our lives, and it's the first time since 2017 that we haven't had a bunny in the house so it's going to feel very weird. The vet did say her heartbeat was a little faint so I think it was the right time, we could've kept her in for monitoring but I just didn't want to stress her out any more.

Thank-you both. Wish I could've had a few more days to spoil her before we had to say goodbye but I have to go into the office tomorrow and just thought if she couldn't stand or hurt herself trying to get up I wouldn't forgive myself, it would've been a selfish choice.

The biggest of hugs for you. I'm so sorry you had to say goodbye. I think you made the right call for your little lady

sleep tight, sweet dreams beautiful Lilac xx

Binky free Lilac ❤️

Sending you big hugs Orenoko. I'm so sorry Lilac had to go, you're very strong (and very right) to have made that decision❤️

I'm so sorry! Lilac sounded like a sweetie! God bless.

Thanks, I just went to collect her ashes and ended up crying in the vets. Thought I'd be okay as some time has passed but she still managed to make me emotional!
I think that is normal. I’m always the same! sending you xx
