Kanga Pants and Pearl Grey

Cuthbert&Dillon

Warren Veteran
Can I just say a massive thank you for this forum, being so supportive and finding me a vets I was confident in.

Kanga Pants and Pearl Grey have just had their post op check up with the vet nurse at Urmston and are all good - nothing further needed.
Hopefully their next trip in the car will be to Birmingham to the bonders in May

Thank you again for all your advise and support - love Kanga and Pearly

Awww, that's nice. Plus I get some credit for the vet recommendation? 🤣

I'm glad they passed their post operative checks

I think the bunnies must have been chatting in the back of the car as I drove the hours to the vets. Kanga must of have told Pearl Grey how to run amock as I was woken this morning with a small girl trying to get in the waste paper bin! For a tiny rabbit she has remarkably loud footsteps - and was not at all keen on going back in her own rroom!

Serious question - they can not meet yet - they are going to the bonder in May, but what happens if they do get near each other, there are two baby gates between Kanga downstairs in the lounge and PearlGrey in the back bedroom. The baby gates are on the lounge door and the stairs. I also shut the stairs door but others in the house dont. Can they fight /fall out through the gate, certainly noses will fit through?

When I was looking after The Freecycle Two, they were tiny Nethie cross unneutered brothers who'd fallen out and wanted each other's blood. Initially we didn't have a big enough bit of wood to put between their enclosures (on the lawn) and the whiter one (now Graciee's Willoughby) properly had a go at his brother's face. Teeth and claws through chickenwire over puppy panels. I've never had a problem with potential bonded rabbits though: we had to keep Barrie safe from Chibbs in a dog crate in the playhouse with her, but she never went for him or anything when he was caged. She just went for him when she got fed up with him while we were actively bonding them XD

Just a quick question, both bunnies had both ears shaved - is hair growth really slow on ears please (its not on my OH) and I was just a bit worried both had bald ears still.

Have they both got completely shaven ears? I remember when I adopted Boo she had been spayed several months before & that hadn't grown back really & the strip my vets shaved on ears for meds & bloods seemed to grow back fully only post moult.

Not wholly but nearly, they both have a strip down their ears - thank you for answering that is reassuring. Pearl Grey is currently running zoomies round the bedrooms. She is so so fast and seems a happy girl.

Wait, they shave bunnies' ears during a spay?

Glad to hear Pearl Grey and Kanag are getting on so well after their procedures!

The ears are easy to cannulate on a rabbit - the veins are easily visible and very accessible, so are often used to deliver drugs etc. Much easier than using a leg vein on a small furry. The fur is shaved to give clear access - it will grow back, but may take some time as extremities often take longer to regrow.

Eeek just been in touch with the bonder to make time arrangements - I am so sure they are bored and lonely so I am really chuffed that its only one week away now - they will travel on the back seat with seatbelts - I was not going to put the water bottles on the carriers so they dont get damp feet but its nearly 3 hours travelling - do you think they will suffice with veggies please?

They will be in carriers not car seats lol

I reckon they'd be OK with just veggies. My rabbits will stay outside in their run, where there is no water, for at least 3 hours without going to get water from inside the shed.

You might also find that they won't eat the veggies. Mine won't eat anything in the car.

I would take a water bottle with you. The weather may be really warm and you can offer them a drink if you make a stop anywhere. I don't leave water in a carrier when I'm actually moving as it just gets messy.

So yesterday the bunnies were taken to the bonder.

They got a small run round the house about 6am and were offered wet veggies - barely touched. They were then bundled in two carriers with some fresh hay, fresh grass and some mint from the garden. It took just over 3 hours to get there with one human pit stop on the way at Keele services.

The carriers were placed in the hall and we left, grabbing a sarni and birthday gift in town before the horrendous journey back - 6 mph for 3 miles at one point before returning to Keele for another wee!

We go back to collect after warfarin clinic on Wednesday next so should pick them up around 2pm home for around 6pm. They will go into the bunny shed not back here to this house.

It is so weird to be here and not a single bunny or pig. After looking after 6 to have none at this house is most odd.

I'm so pleased you posted. I was wondering yesterday evening when your two were off to the bonders. I thought it was imminent. I'm sorry the journey was so rotten.

Is the photo showing how they are housed at the bonders? Will you get regular updates?

Sending them good bonding vibes and keeping fingers crossed for a happy bunny bond.
