• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

John-Joe + Roisin U/D 4th May

Sending lots of love and hugs to JJ and Roisin, they are very lucky to have such an amazing owner. I hope they continue to pick up xx

Lots of healing vibes to JJ and Roisin and sleeping vibes to you Jane, once they are over the worst.

Sending lots of keep stable and improve vibes for your Roisin and JJ, I hope you manage to get some sleep tonight, even if it has to be in the form of cat naps.

Sending more vibes for JJ and Roisin's continued improvement and some restful vibes for you. xxxxx

Thanks so much everyone  Feeling a bit over-whelmed now, lack of sleep is not my friend these days. Going to try to catch another nap now before the next round of meds and feeds is due x

JJ is definitely brighter and he has finally passed a bit more poo. The impaction in his intestines has broken down into smaller clumps and is moving. The gas that had built up behind it has cleared. I really don’t want to tempt fate by saying any more…….

Roisin has just been nebulised again and during the session she sneezed out a large clump of snot (sorry for tmi). Better out than in I guess. She remains quiet within herself, but is eating with more enthusiasm. Her lungs are still crackly, but her respiratory rate and effort are normal and so is her temperature. We just have to hope the the abx will eventually get on top of the infection.

I have absolutely no idea what day it is !

JJ and Roisin are so lucky to have your expert care. I am sending lots more vibes and hope you can get more rest. Hugs.

Thinking of you and hoping that both of your poorly bunnies are continuing to improve.

Sadly I have spoken too soon re JJ  Will be contacting my Vet later, but I think we are going to have to make some difficult decisions. Possibly laparoscopy, which my Vet has said will be very high risk given JJs already debilitated state, but it might be a case of taking the risk if the only alternative is PTS. Obviously JJ would have relevant scans prior to opening him up. But even scans can miss some issues. JJ has a chronic gut motility problem which is not caused by a poor diet, it is something he has had since he was a baby. My Vet believes that surgical intervention will not give JJ a long term cure as it won’t change his poor gut motility, in fact it could even make it worse.

To be honest I just don’t know what to do. Even if he were to survive surgery there’s a good chance problems will continue. Is it fair to put him through such a major op’ when he is already poorly if the surgery has minimal chance of being curative.

Not asking anyone to tell me what to do, I know it’s a decision only me and my Vet can make. I am just typing out the chaos that is constantly going round and round in my head.

Oh no  I’m so sorry. I hope the vet can help him, and help decide what is the best decision.

Sending hugs and vibes xx
