Idiots with fireworks.

I don't know why people do it. I suspect it's that they want to have fireworks and either don't realise that it scares most animals, or just don't care.

Make sure that Booboo continues to eat and drink.

Poor Booboo, and the others as well :( That's horrible that they were right outside your window. I really can't understand the appeal of fireworks, especially when they cause distress to so many; companion animals, wild animals, and humans alike. I usually close the curtains against the flashes (though thankfully my buns have never been bothered by fireworks), and I like Mervinius' idea of playing music, too.

Sadly we don't have bunnies anymore but we've a dog. We have lots of fireworks here too and what I've been doing is putting fireworks on my google in the background at random times so he gets used to the noise. It does seem to have been helping and he definitely doesn't seem as anxious when they really go off. It won't work for everyone but worth a try if you have a Google, Alexa etc!

I'm dreading it with little Flora, it will be her first experience of fireworks. Having said that, we don't get many round here, apart from the big display at the castle, very close to where I live, which thankfully only lasts 20 minutes. Like Olices, I've been playing some, and so far she's not bothered. I might look on u tube too.

Aw, I hope little Flora will be okay. It sounds promising that she's not bothered by the stuff you've been playing, at least.

Kids here start messing about with fireworks during the day several weeks before New Year's, and while I personally think it's awful (and highly irresponsible, but that's another thing :cautious:), I guess it lets the bunnies slowly get used to it before all hell breaks loose on the actual night itself. I wonder what Saar will think, though. Sophie was never bothered, and Casper doesn't care, either.

Yeah, I think the others have a really good idea about getting animals used to the noise before it happens. I think that's why our rabbits aren't really bothered either--my dad uses power tools all the time (not too close to them, but close enough where they can hear) so they've long since grown used to it

I've heard of people also giving food to their animals while they play recordings of fireworks or thunder, to get them to associate the noise with a happy time (food!!!). I've never tried it myself, though, and I'm wondering if they might accidentally associate the food with a bad time (loud noise) instead...

I think fireworks should be banned from the public because of the misuse of them. They are explosives after all and can be quite dangerous. They should only be for organized licensed firework displays only.
