I think Eddy understands human words

Wise Old Thumper
I've always enjoyed having a bath with the door open, leaving a nice view of my bunnies doing there thing in the room
opposite. So I'm in the bath when I hear & see both buns having a good old gnaw on the door frame. I shout "Eddy No,
Chinookie No" & silence ensues. For like one minute. Then Eddy sits upright on the threshold of the door,
& Chinook recommences chewing. I laughed & said Eddy you *** ****, you're a terrible decoy, I can still see & hear her

Well he got mega grumpy, tail wag, stomps, & flew under the wardrobe. Not the first time he has responded like this
when its been content rather than tone of voice.

Maybe I'll get him some pet communication buttons. Anyone ever heard of anyone using these on bunnies?

I think my Lionhead rabbits understand some words, though most are related to food!
Eddy sounds like a lovely husbun shielding Chinook.

Ooo, interesting! I love animal training so much! I've heard of these being used on dogs and (sometimes) cats, but not rabbits! That's a pretty cool idea. I once saw a rabbit that played basketball, so maybe they could learn. I think it would be a long process though, but that's only based on what I know about dogs. Just curious, have you tried tricking him with tone of voice? Like say something really nice in a mean voice or call him names in a sweet one? Curious to see what his reaction is!

My rabbits are like cats. I'm sure they understand me, but they only choose to respond if they're offended or if it's food related 😆

Teamwork. He is sweet to chinook. My friend bought them them some hay cookies the other week. Eddy didnt like them but each time i gave him one downstairs he carried it up to chinook

i will play more with tone . I guess i was laughing when i said it so he might have been offended by that. I shall update

Eddy sounds very smart and sweet to take such good care of Chinook.

Just remembered bunnies only see in blue & green so if used buttons I'd have to add something with different textures....or written words 🤣 🤣

I will be interested to hear how this goes. I must admit I am sceptical of whether a rabbit can actually 'understand' the content of words. But I am interested in what you establish with your research.

The situation here is the same for the rabbits as the chicken. They all will respond to a limited number of simple commands, which we are careful to reproduce in the same way each time. So words are said in the same order and mostly with the same or similar tone. I have always considered this to be them recognising a sound pattern, rather than understanding the meaning of the words.

Aw, clever Eddy  I don't blame him for not being pleased he was being called a *** ****, whatever it was :ROFLMAO: If you do get those talking buttons, please keep us updated. Since they're usually designed for dogs, I wonder if they'd be too hard to push for a bunny.

This is the sweetest thing. He's such a good boy ❤️

Yeah I'm not mega hopeful but I have some cheap ones on order. I wonder how easy they will be to press. Eddy can be quite bullish. Thinking it makes no sense to have buttons related to food. I know they are always starving 🤣 they are really clever at communicating that like all bunny kind. What I thought might be fun is to teach them to put music on when I'm out🤣 I play most music in their room & reckon they must have an opinion on it

I wonder if keeping them in the same spot will be more helpful than different colors? Didn't know they could only see blue and green! I agree with you @Mervinius, only I think they just find me someone to laugh at rather than be afraid of!

yeah I think that would make sense, keeping them in one spot. As it happens Reader was right & they can't /won't operate them. They might work if I put one in a box under a seagrass mat by them jumping on it, then maybe they could jump in one box to turn music off & another to turn it on 🤣 I need to experiment

Got Bob (with his louder voice) to re-record the buttons - now it works when they run in the laundry hamper (mega chewed seagrass thing they stole off us). Forgot to remove the button though so we were both woken up in the early hours to Bob's voice booming "Hey Google, please play Fleetwood mac 🤣 So we only have 4 buttons, 3 asking for different types of music, & I intend to put the music off one in a separate box. I very much doubt they'll make the connection

That is hilarious, I love it :ROFLMAO: Please keep us updated on what music they prefer :ROFLMAO:
