Heating question

Sorry me again.

Years ago when I had bunnies I used the stove in the lounge - where the bunnies lived and "banked" it up all night for it to stay warm.

Now I am more than a little menopausal and have the heating off at night. The pigs are in houses and sleep together but Kanga is on his own.

Do people leave heating on for there indoor bunnies please - he is due to be castrated on the 18th and I am already finding things to flap / panic about.

Healthy, active indoor rabbits shouldn't need additional heating under normal circumstances. They will be fine if they have somewhere they can hide out if needed eg a box full of hay or straw. Another rabbit to snuggle up to is usually the ideal source of additional warmth.

After a GA for neutering, they may need a bit of extra TLC for a couple of days as they may not be able to regulate their body temperature properly, and will be less active than usual. Some sort of heat spot is useful - where they can easily get the benefit from the extra warmth if they want, but are not stuck with it if they don't want it. I use snugglesafe heatpads under a pile of hay, in something like a cat carrier with the door removed. You can also use plug in heat mats or a basic hot water bottle / bottle of warm water wrapped in a blanket and reheat as needed. The main thing is to make sure they can't get to chew any of it and cause further injury to themselves, and that they are able to move to or away from the heat source if they want to.

I have no bedroom heating at all. . Two indoor bunnies and one hamster.

I have a glass panel heater I turn on in the spare room which juts out into the hallway. Only in December I put the Dyson on. I really hate feeling hot. I think the animals prefer it like I do, no heating. Teddy uses every room but not allowed in the living room, he doesn't prefer the warm room.

Thank you Barn Yard Bunnies - I only have the heating on at 19 degrees - but at night have noticed the house drops to 15 degrees

I used to leave the heating on for Boo in her last wobbly year, but wouldn't bother for healthy Chinook & Eddy. I'm hoping the gerbils are ok but they have each other & burrows...plus they haven't got darker or less active I agree with Shimmer that he should have access to a warm & cosy place for his recovery. I'm sure he'll do fine....he sounds a much bigger bunny than his size.

Welcome to the world of broken down heat regulation....I am usually cold by day & turn into an inferno 5 minutes after getting in bed....then its alternate sweats & chills. This joy has been going on for almost 2 decades...my best friends mum still experiencing it in her late 60's
