Fleece material for bunny castle

Mervinius

Mama Doe
I have been using normal cheap fleece for the buns as beds and squishy areas in their wooden castle. They have got very worn and now Bumble has turned most of them into Swiss cheese. 😆

He has toned done the chewing, so im looking at buying some new fabric and replacing the fleece.

I've never liked that it was polyester and no Bumble is chewing it, I like it even less. In my mind cotton is at least a natural fibre 😆

Anyway. Here is my question, should I buy

1, same cheap fleece
2, anti Pilling fleece (stays softer but still Poly)
3, organic cotton fleece

Option 3 is more pricey, but the fur balls deserve to be spoilt in my mind. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts of what they would use. I think would appreciate new fleeces to rest her older body on. I've noticed shes seeking soft areas more, so want to give her more comfort.

How about using pillow cases over what you currently use? Raid charity shops if necessary.
I have used standard cotton material before and Archie chewed that and I was worrying about the thin fibres bunching up inside him, like a ball of wool. The advantage i found in fleecing is it comes away in bigger chunks, so they seem to eat less it just gets dropped in a pile 🤷‍♀️

Since you're already leaning towards spoiling them, I would go with the organic cotton fleece, since, like you said, that's at least more natural than polyester in case Bumble chews it. I don't know how it compares in softness to the other fleece, though; I didn't even know organic cotton fleece is a thing until your post!

Yes ive not heard of it before. I might order a sample and see what its like. I imagine it won't be as soft as the polyester one but you never know

Its weird what rabbits choose to chew. Chinook is a ****** for towels, I can't use them for bunnies anymore as they loves pulling the threads. She is generally ok with cotton. Neither bun chews any clothes that I am very careless about leaving on the floor. They do enjoy a bit of carpet unfortunately. I hope Pip & Bumble enjoy their new organic fleece ❤️

J&B,
You are right about towels being an attractive chew toy for some bunnies. My Peter likes to chew and scratch them. Even the cotton ones worry me because he can get very long threads from the them so we cannot use them for bunnies..

Mervinous,
I use the regular synthetic fleece for my bunnies. I never knew they had cotton fleece.

Perhaps Bumble is making confetti to celebrate his wonderful home and friend!

Lol. That made me laugh. Yes it does look like confetti, maybe that is his plan.

I think the cotton fleece is new, I've never seen it before, but my fabric shop has closed so looking online I saw there's lots of options. I've ordered 2 cotton fleece samples heavy and standard weight and 2 poly fleece options to compare.
I'm excited I recon i should get the buns to test them as well. 😆

The samples has arrived! I ordered 4 but 1 I've immediately removed from the options because bits of it were falling off everywhere....
Yellow = heavy weight cotton fleece
Orange = cotton fleece
Blue/green = standard poly fleece

Both the cotton ones are wayyyy softer, bit like brushed cotton but thicker. I've laid them out to see what the buns think. No interest at all yet. 😆. I'll give them a wash to see if that affects them as well.

It didnt take long for the monkeys to investigate. They all got a thorough sniffing, but particularly the orange one. I can't smell a thing, but Pip has sniffed every mm of that one. 🤣 the yellow one does feel amazing!

I like the look of the yellow one too. It looks a denser weave, although I doubt that would affect it's chew appeal as determined by the bunnies. Is this different to winceyette and flannelette? It looks as though it might be thicker.

Yes it is denser, dont think it will make a difference to the chew appeal either 😆. Id not heard of winceyette, so had a quick Google. I'd say thicker than both of those and softer. Feels more like fleece.
But similar to brushed cotton, just thicker. Its slightly stretchy like fleece.

Well Pip didnt show much interest after they were washed.... but somebun else did. 😆. Lots of rolling, digging, smoothly and mini binkies occurred. Of course he picked the most expensive. 😆. They did all wash well and he is right the yellow is the softest!
