Fleas in the house

It’s been quite a while since I’ve been on here but I know this site has a lot of knowledgeable bun people. We rescued a bun (thumper) and she was covered in fleas so we treated her and the other buns and cats together. I obviously didn’t kill them all because I now have fleas in my house. I currently have a disabled bun (buttons) age 12, free range in a bedroom upstairs and I have thumper and a continental giant downstairs in bonding pens but taking turns free ranging and outside time. I really think I need to use flea Foggers but only if they are safe. I would take the animals out of the house and keep them out for a lot longer than advised but I’m worried about the carpet in the bedroom with buttons. Is there a way to make it safe to use in that room.

Okay, I've suggested this in another thread and @a reader of books suggested it wouldn't be safe to on rabbits, so take this suggestion with a serious caution. (sorry, but I just want to make sure everyone and everybun is safe!) But have you considered diatomaceous earth? It is a natural and nontoxic, and we used it ourselves after we rescued a couple of kittens. But (and this is a big but) it works by cutting up the bugs with its microscopic particles. So getting it into the lungs is not a great idea, especially for rabbits. Since you're already planning to take them out, it might be okay but I'll leave that assessment to someone more experienced than me. Also, it doesn't kill the eggs, just the fleas.

Hope you get rid of the fleas soon, they're a nuisance to be sure.

The fleas you see on an animal are only the tip of the iceberg. Many more are hatching out in the local environment, particularly in carpeted areas and any nooks and crannies that a vacuum cleaner won't reach regularly.

The only quick and reliable way to eliminate fleas at all life stages is to spray with an appropriate presticide. There are some good quality canned ones that you use once a year, such as:

Follow the instructions on the can. Spray around all the floor edges, under furniture, on soft furnishings, etc. Remove animals (and remove or cover food & water bowls) from the room first and until the spray settles (a couple of hours or so?). You can always do a room or floor at a time so you can shuffle things around.

I hate using insecticides, but sometimes needs must, and this works quickly and means that you shouldn't have to keep treating the animals themselves once the infestation has cleared, which reduces the overall pesticide use.

I agree with you about not liking pesticides but I have to use them. Ive sent for the indorex. ive got to get rid of them. I’ve done every animal in the house twice and they have still got them again, even after thoroughly hoovering daily. Thanks xx
