It must be such a relief now that he is eating, drinking and making better poo. It is remarkable that he is so active and enjoying life so soon after his surgery. Sending him all many positive vibes for a long, happy life.

Yipee, my vet was happy with how Shadow is doing so he is going back next friday for the sutures to be removed. And he can stop the extra meds other than we're continuing with the paracetamol. So that will be a lot easier just doing that and his normal meds. That will be a lot less stressful for shadow and us! He is also allowed more and more space back but under supervision and slowly while he gets used to it again a bit at a time. She said the vet nurse who did the anaesthetic kept asking her how shadow was getting on, she said she will be so happy, and then she added, I am so so happy too. It was pretty emotional!

I thought I would just give another quick update. Shadow is continuing to do amazingly well. He had his stitches out friday no problem, he is continuing to eat properly and seems pretty much back to his normal self. We are starting to introduce his levels back into his room again. He is desperate to be allowed back in our bedroom again but we're taking it slowly to let him get used to bits at a time to make sure he can judge things ok and doesn't bump into things. Generally he should be fine with the layout as we'll be putting it all back the exact same as it was but we have to watch that he doesn't misjudge especially if he is jumping. He seems to be managing ok, running over to us etc but time will tell if he has any issues with coordination, at the moment there's not much for him to bump into. I can't wait for him to come running in and jumping on the bed like normal! My vet said she doesn't need to see him again until his next heart check in another 3 months (unless anything happens before then). Thankyou for everyones support through this and Shadow is greatful too

That's his 'friend' Flopsy! My partners son also mistook her for a real bunny the first time he saw her! Shadow did have a partner but she passed away, we tried bonding which didn't work out unfortunately and was very stressful for shadow. He was good at the bonders but despite neutralusing space at home, he knew where he was as there isn't anywhere truely neutral as he's free room and has been everywhere! So that caused fighting which shadow didn't cope well with. We perservered but had to give up because of shadow's heart. We were going to try again with a different bunny but then his heart got worse so my vet didn't think he should do the 2 hour journey again to the bonder. We planned to try at home with help from a distance but then he got an ear infection so the rescue suggested waiting until it cleared. Then he started sneezing and watery eyes etc so we postponed again. Then it was cataracts and then this! We've resigned to try to just give him the best life we can, we both work from home so give him lots of love. If we lived nearer a bonder we probably would have tried again as the bond him and hazel had was amazing, they were so happy together, I wish he could have had that again

Aw I totally get it, when I lost my blind bun Rupert, my remaining bun (now at the bridge) started to get various health issues, and my vet recommended not putting her through the stress of bonding. She was very much a bun's bun but she slowly softened to us! I'm sure Shadow knows you're doing the best for him, he's a lucky boy to have you.

Thankyou, I feel so guilty to Shadow but we really don't have a choice like your situation. Even though we were right there to break up the fight it was still enough to really upset him, he went so flat and breathing so fast I thought he was going to have a heart attack poor thing! And that was before his heart got worse than it had been. We tried seperating for a week completely then another week of side by side swapping things over before trying again but they just fought straight away. It took us 6 months to originally bond Shadow and Hazel so we knew it was likely to be tricky. Luckily he has always loved a snuggle (on the floor) but he's become even more cuddly since losing Hazel. We just try to give him as much attention as we can.

I'm in the same situation with piper where trying to bond her was too much stress on her, and now she's alone she's more cuddly. We just try to give her lots of attention everyday, luckily usually at least one of us is wfh everyday. I don't think she's that upset about it, I think when I worry/feel guilty I'm projecting.
