EC help

Hi,

I’m really worried about my rabbit Ronnie. Had to take him to the emergency vet a week ago as he was not eating and was very lethargic. He was treated for stasis but we have now been treating for EC for about a week with Panacur which the vets recommended due to him not improving and having a very slight (hardly noticeable) head tilt. He was doing better, back eating etc but today he seems really poorly. He is trembling/shaking really bad. He was doing it a bit last time but not this bad. I’ve read this can be a symptom of EC or could it be some kind of seizure? It’s horrible to see. He just had a bad episode. He also seems to be in some digestive discomfort as he is belly pressing and doing weird stretches with his back legs out. He’s eating bits but not full appetite. I’m keeping a close eye on him and will definitely take him to the vet if he doesn’t improve in the next hour but I’m just confused as he’s been on the panacur for a week now plus Loxicom. Is it normal for them to get worse during treatment or does this suggest it’s not EC but something else?

Thank you

Recovery from EC can take a long time, and is not always a straight path unfortunately. Definitely speak with your vet for their view just in case there is something else going on. Sending lots of vibes for your little boy.

Thank you, he seems a bit better now, not trembling anymore anyway. It’s really strange as he was shaking so bad earlier :( I can’t work out what brought it on, I don’t see many people talk about shaking as a symptom of EC although I’ve read tremors can be. I let him out for a bit and moving around seems to have helped

The trembling sounds more like a pain response, not EC. Especially as you mention the tummy pressing.
Its essential a Vet examines him, if he hasn’t passed poo for some time then it is an emergency. There is a chance he might have an impaction/obstruction somewhere in his GI tract. Trembling can occur during a bout of acute colic like abdominal pain

Yes, that could also be it as he was definitely in some digestive discomfort. The trembling was quite severe so I was worried it was some kind of seizure but he didn’t have the typical symptoms such as tracking, rolling etc. He was passing small poos and his appetite is better now so it seems to have sorted itself out. Can stasis/digestive issues be a response to EC? Thanks
