Do rabbits ever play with toys?

None of mine ever played with toys they always ignored them. When they were younger they'd sometimes play with bits of branch but other than that, they never played with any toys.... There is somebody who wants to rehome there mini lop and I am tempted to give it a new home and join my bunny family but I'm still deciding... they asked me to give it lots of toys.

Yes mine love toys, particularly willow balls
they also have some stacking cups from PAH,
they have cardboard tubes stuffed with hay,
they have stools to climb up on.
They have tubs to run through.
They have plastic plant pots to throw about.
They have fleece blankets over the stools to make the dens.
They have veg strung up and hanging down, also put into cardboard egg boxes.

I dont have posh proper toys for them.

Good luck with your potential new bunny

Thats, cool I guess some bunny breads are different in there behavior. I used to stuff hay in cardboard tubes but they kept eating the cardboard like literally and I didn't feel comfortable with cardboard in there digestive tract. They will also eat anything plastic but they have plenty of logs, sticks willow branches to chew on and a selection of hays and they have things to climb on and a dig box for making burrows. The only bunny who doesn't chew and eat anything in front of them is Snuggles who is a mixed lion head/ mini lop but my other two bunnies will chew and eat anything especially blankets and stuff.

When I had bunnies, I don't think I ever bought them toys as such. They liked seagrass things to destroy, and boxes to hide in and jump on. They had a set of stacking cups, but were only ever interested when I stacked them up, for them to knock down. Hidden treats were a favourite too. Good luck if you take the new bunny on.

A firm yes - my bunnies love their toys. Eddy prefers the interactive food toys and Chinook adores her digging toys (she has a sandbox & a big hay box full of packaging paper). The both like to scat at those corrugated cardboard cat toys too

There’s a difference between providing enrichment (like digging boxes and hay stuffed tubes) and providing ‘toys’. Toys would still come under ‘enrichment’ but may not be treated as playthings by some rabbits. I’ve had some that liked to throw small plastic plant pots around, but mostly they would be ignored. However , all of mine liked apple tree branches, etc, to chew.

I think throwing things is a firm favourite here, I put the plastic stacker cups in a cardboard box upstairs every morning and by lunch time they have been thrown about the shed - now you have said that I am wondering if they are doing it to provide ME with enrichment rather than the other way around.

I bought my 2 some stacking cups - weren't interested. I tried a few baby things like teething rings, etc - again not interested. However they used to love small plant pots, cuttings from bushes, sand pits, etc, but by far their favourite were the cardboard veg boxes freely available in most supermarkets. They spent hours with them - under them, in them & on top! Happy days!

Do you just pop the box in their area and that is that or do you stack them? Just thinking this might be grand for my two.

I just used to cut out "doors" for them to get in & out, etc, then just place the boxes in their runs, sometimes 4 at a time of varying sizes.
We use the 5kg Hay Shed empty boxes. They are at the moment stacked together in a block of 4, so 2 on top of 2 in one corner of the shed. Doors cut out to allow entry in an out as well as from one box to another. Then we have ramps up to the higher level. They adore them and spend almost every evening cuddling in one of the top boxes, the box facing out to the inside of the shed, with their faces just poking out of the door.

I have a couple of nearly emply Hay Shed boxes - they will go in this morning. Thanks both.
