New Kit
I adopted two females about 6 weeks ago and bonded them with my male. One is great with the litter box but the other is proving more difficult to train. She is spayed and has seen the vet to rule out any physical cause.
They have underbed storage boxes as litter trays and currently also have 2 cat litter trays, which I am trying to place in areas she habitually pees.
I have tried different litters and they were bonded in a small space which is gradually being increased. With all my previous bunnies, this technique has worked for litter training. When the space was very small, she went in the tray, but as soon as it gets bigger, she uses the floor again.
I’m currently trying to put multiple trays in popular places, with the intention of gradually moving them towards the main trays and removing them. This is not working so far.
I’ve tried mopping up and putting the tissues in the box, with no luck.
I’m aware that the bonding and changes in their pen could have had an impact on behaviour. Has anyone else had similar experiences and been successful in the lond run?
Also, does anyone have any other tips for litter training? She also seems to have a knack for sitting in it afterwards, so I’m always worried about urine scald.
In case I can’t manage to litter train her, does anyone have any tips for managing a non- litter trained rabbit whilst free-roaming? I don’t have a spare room for them, so it’s free roaming or I move out of the bedroom and sleep on the sofa!
