• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

contracted pupil and pink iris/update!

hi guys need some help. last night i went out to put my buns light on and notice one of petals eyes nearly closed. on closer inspection i noticed her pupil had contacted and the iris was pink instead of blue. i immediately phoned the vets who she may have hurt it and to bathe it. this morning her eye is nearly back to blue again but the pupil is still contracted.
has anyone ever experienced this? and will the pupil go back to normal?
really just don't know whats happened to her. hoping she hasn't caused eye damage.

Might be an ulcer? Sooty had one over her entire eye. Eye drops cleared it within a week.

Iridial inflammation is serious as it can lead to inflammatory 'scars' between the iris and other tissues that can prevent normal pupil constriction and dilation. It does merit immediate veterinary intervention, even if only to start anti-inflammatory medication.

thanks for the replies, all reddness has gone now, pupil is nearly fully dilated to normal again. will take her to the vets tomorrow evening. vets are currently closed and petal doesn't seem distressed and eating fine. thanks again for replies.

well just an update, took petal to the vets. he checked behind her eye, did an irodine test and it came up clear. so home with some eye drops, most of the infection has gone. not too sure what it was but all clear.

That's great! I'm glad there was nothing sinister there now :)
